Fall 2018 University of Memphis LCON(Loewenberg College of Nursing)

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi I am a sophomore at The University of Memphis and I have recently applied to Loewenberg. I have completed all of my prereqs accept microbiology which I am taking this coming Spring'18. For A&PI I made a B in the lecture and an A in the lab. For part 2, I made a C in the lecture and a B in the lab. I'm really disappointed because this is the first C I've made in college and I understand that LCON is very competitive. I have a high GPA but the C lowered it to a 3.5. I originally had a 3.7. I plan on taking A&PII online in the Spring to get a better a grade. I'm extremely nervous that I won't get accepted because of the C. I was told that we may hear a decision at the end of the Spring semseter but I was unsure how true this is. I noticed the ones who applied for the Spring'18 got their decision in the middle of the semester. I would appreciate any advice.

I applied for Spring of 18. I had an overall GPA of 3.5 and a 3.0 Science GPA. I did not get excepted. I have re applied but Im honestly not counting on it. I dont mean to be a debbie downer but it completely broke my heart when I got the denial letter. I was the only one out of all my friends that did not get in. The only reason I am reapplying this upcoming fall semester is because they say it is easier to get in during the fall and also this past semester I was able to bring my Overall GPA up to a 3.6. I already have a back up major in place though. @star2 what is your overall GPA? 3.5 is good for the science GPA and its even better that your retaking it this semester.

Thank you for responding. That's my biggest fear of not getting in with my friends. Right now my overall GPA is a 3.59 and my science is a 3.0. The C in Anotomy really brought my GPA down. I originally had a 3.7. You sound very optimistic I hope everything works out.

Thank you for responding. That's my biggest fear of not getting in with my friends. Right now my overall GPA is a 3.59 and my science is a 3.0. The C in Anatomy really brought my GPA down. I originally had a 3.7. You sound very optimistic I hope everything works out. Also did you have any advice for microbiology I'm taking it this coming semester as well?

I star I am also awaiting notice for fall 18. Ive heard different stories from people getting wait listed with a 3.8 GPA to people getting in with a 3.0. I myself have a slim chance of getting accepted. my overall GPA is a 3.2 and I made an A in AP2 and B in AP1 after retaking it. Im taking Microbiology this spring.

what will you do if you don't get in this time?

Hi EMT_2RN, if I don't get in this time I will apply again for the Spring of 2019. I'm just a little worried about Microbiology. I am retaking Anatomy but my advisor informed me that we can only retake one science course. It's just a little stressful.

Yea that's why I'm retaking my sciences at SWTCC. It's a lot more manageable there and the lecture and lab are together not separate

I'll keep that in mind. I've heard a lot of people taking the sciences at SWTCC. I hope everything works out.

So I wonder which is more important in the process. The Overall GPA or the Science GPA?

@star2... just study study study.... are you taking it online or on campus? I took mine online with the "register" or whatever the states program is called. So I had the advantage of taking the test at my house. But I did have 2 protoctor test I had to take on campus and i just had to study really hard.

@EMT... My 2nd option is Nutrition... I really overall just wanna help people with their health. My idea is if I cant help them during their time while battling the disorder or condition then I can help prevent it through dieting/nutrition. ALSO... they usually have a little meeting for all the pre-nursing students half way through the semester and at that meeting last semester they said that neither (overall GPA or Science GPA) counts more than the other. I personally thought it might Science GPA counted more than overall but when I asked that question at the meeting the president of the senior nursing class responded with "Science GPA doesnt mean you will be a good nurse or make it in nursing school"
