Fall 2018 University of Memphis LCON(Loewenberg College of Nursing)

Nursing Students School Programs

Hi I am a sophomore at The University of Memphis and I have recently applied to Loewenberg. I have completed all of my prereqs accept microbiology which I am taking this coming Spring'18. For A&PI I made a B in the lecture and an A in the lab. For part 2, I made a C in the lecture and a B in the lab. I'm really disappointed because this is the first C I've made in college and I understand that LCON is very competitive. I have a high GPA but the C lowered it to a 3.5. I originally had a 3.7. I plan on taking A&PII online in the Spring to get a better a grade. I'm extremely nervous that I won't get accepted because of the C. I was told that we may hear a decision at the end of the Spring semseter but I was unsure how true this is. I noticed the ones who applied for the Spring'18 got their decision in the middle of the semester. I would appreciate any advice.

@uofmnursing2018 I attended one of those meeting two semesters ago. I didn't know what questions to ask like I do now. I know If the GPAs don't count more than another then it doesn't help you unless both are high. Right now my science gpa is 3.5 and my overall is 3.2. One thing that i remember is that they pick the people with all their sciences done first. I got accepted into baptist but not sure if I want to go there because I'd have to take their stupid classes before I could start nursing classes.

Hello everyone!

I applied for spring 2018 but was denied. I did email the nursing student recruiter asking if I needed to work on anything in hopes of getting in for the fall term, she replied stating that they were flooded with applicants and had to base their acceptance on students who had all prerequisites completed. I was taking my last set of prerequisites and because of that I was denied. BTW my gpa was 3.56 with 3.0 in Sciences. I've reaplied for the fall. Best of luck everyone!

@EMT... yea those Baptist classes are stupid. i got buddy though over there trying to get into their nursing program. Im just not in the position to transfer. I really dont wanna pay private school tuition. @Dreamer05 I applied for Spring and didnt get in as well. Hopefully Fall is the semester for us. Do you have a back up plan in place just in case you dont get in ?

I am new to this, so take what I say with some reservations. I currently taking Microbiology/lab spring 2018 online, with L&P in the summer. I will be applying in the fall for Spring 2019 for LCON @ Lambuth. My Advisor told me that, they weigh the 3 science class the most and take in additional factors. I already have a degree and my overall GPA is around a 2.6 (earned in 2007) Mathematically, I would need over 2 1/2 semesters full time with straight A's to even reach a 3.0 overall. I asked her if it was even worth my time and would I even be considered barely cracking a 2.75 GPA. She said that she knows of an "adult returning student" in my exact scenario that DID make it in with a low overall GPA. The advisor said, it really is dependent upon your 3 science classes/labs and they go from there. I already work in the medical field, so she claims i have a decent chance and LCON @ Lambuth is still pretty small and therefore has a higher acceptance rate than normal. Whether she was just saying that to get me to start taking classes, i dunno. I am just working my butt off this spring/fall to hope to have a chance.

are you in Mirco right now? Spring 2018. I am....

@jemerrill that ya be the case for lambuth but it seems to be conflicting stories as far as Memphis goes. A guy in y Micro class said his friend got in with a 3.0. Some say u have to AT LEAST have a 3.3. It's nerve racking

Well my application status changed from submitted to under review so the process has officially started!!! I know its gonna be a while before we have answers but Good Luck to everyone.

I applied for fall too. When you guys say "science GPA" are you talking all sciences you've taken or just the pre reqs (A&P 1 and 2, micro)? I took a bunch of random sciences like geology and such back when I got my first (liberal arts) degree so not sure if those are factored in or not. I did just check and mine finally says "under review".

Also - has anyone gotten an email from the school saying they've received your application or any communication at all? I have not and was thinking that was weird. I also applied to UT and they've been much more communicative.

And since everyone is sharing, my overall GPA is 3.3 and I'm at a 4.0 on the pre reqs. My "overall science" GPA where we are throwing in various sciences from 17 years ago is more like a 3.5. And yes, this is a second career for me and I'm old!

Science Gpa is only A&P 1/2 and Micro. And Memphis doesn't send u anything until it's time to accept or decline I think.

Thanks for clarifying! The lady I spoke with on the phone when I called said that acceptances go out around the last two weeks of March. Seems like forever to wait but oh well!

So my adviser at U of M said that in the past few semesters no one has been admitted with less than a 3.0 gpa and also whether you have finished all of your sciences does matter.

Hey Everyone ,

I recently applied for Fall 2018. Last semester I took A&P and passed with a B. I'm currently taking A&P II this semester and I'm taking Microbilogy this summer. Do you think they will accept me ? If so should I just apply for the nursing program Spring 2019?
