5 pre reqs left

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I have A&P 1,2, Micro, Gen Chem, And Coll Alg left to complete. I'm a part-time student and I know it looks like I have a lot left, but I feel like I've came a long ways. Now that I only have 5 classes left should I take my time with these, does anyone recommend I take any of these together, please help. Btw I'm a full time mommy, wife and employee???!!!

I would take A&P1, chem, and algebra together, and then A&P 2 and micro. In my personal experience, I had a harder time with micro than any other prereq. It might help if you take micro after A&P or with A&P 2.

Personally I would take all the sciences one by one, and add the math class to one of those semesters. I work full time and one science class was enough work (though I did take easy classes with them), but I wouldnt take more than one science a semester. You want to give those classes your full attention as those are the ones most nursing schools look at!

Thanks, I'm just so afraid bcuz I see everyone posting about how hard the science classes are, don't want to bite off more than I can chew.

Take each biology course ONE AT A TIME... I've seen many people try and tackle both and end up having to drop one.. These courses take tons of studying and you cannot afford additional distractions. I'm a wife and mommy also, but stay at home mom. And still lots of work ! I took my time and took my pre reqs over a year and a half including summer and managed all A's in the biology s and most general pre reqs, a few B+'s and B in micro. You should Take coll algebra &trig in summer over one session, I did in 4weeks got A, and took lifespan at same time B+. Then take chemistry in the second session of summer. I Will be starting RN program in January.

Wow Congrats Cgrant!!!! Thanks for the great advice ;)

I have Statistics, Microbiology, Nutrition, & Chem left. :/

That's ok Brenay were almost there ?with these five classes left it's going to take me until 2014 to finish, but I'm excited because I'm going to take one at a time to ensure my GPA does not drop.

Specializes in Hospitalist Medicine.

I bit the bullet and took 6 courses this semester just to be done with my pre-reqs. Let me preface this by saying that I don't work (got laid off in May), nor are my kids young (my son is a teenager and my step-daughter is grown and on her own now). Even having all this free time on my hands, I was SWAMPED with school work! Going to school WAS my full-time job. I made it through with a 4.0, but I was a ball of stress the last 4 weeks of school. I will never take that many credits at one time ever again!

If you have to be a wife, mother & employee, I would definitely advise to take your time if you want to maintain a high GPA. Make sure that Chem isn't a pre-req for A&P (at some schools, you have to take it before A&P or Micro). If you haven't met with an academic advisor yet, I highly recommend doing so. He/she can lay out a course plan for you that fits into your lifestyle.

When it comes down to it only YOU know what you're capable of doing. Do what you feel comfortable doing. There's no "right" way or perfect time frame when it comes to your education. Do what works for your unique situation :)

Best of luck to you and much success on the rest of your journey. 5 courses....the end is in sight!!!

I took 7 pre reqs in 2 semesters. It was tough!

I am a mother of three and currently not working.

I took A&P 1 and 2 and nutrition over the summer and stats, chem, Developmental psych and micro over the fall.

It was very hard. I do not recommend taking A&P together with micro because both classes require a lot of memorization a and cover so much content. But that's just me.

I felt it was challenging but I made school and the kids my only priority, did not go out or net with friends or even went online much! I made it through with a 3.8

Good luck!

Another thing: I did take nutrition ADN along with taking micro, but that class required so little attention from me as it's a completely different animal than micro, so I was able to do it. I hate to say but I didn't buy the nutrition textbook or the micro textbook, nor did I study not once for nutrition as i was super focused on micro lab/lec . I managed a B+ in nutrition and B in micro ;) good luck
