Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

:uhoh3:I am curious to know like HOW much of Anatomy & Physiology does a NURSE need to know

or does it all just come to you in NURSING school???????????????

I figured you DEFINITELY know your A&P....especially since you discussed an complicated A&P concept on this post off the top of your head;)...I think I was trying to stress the importance to the original poster.

Thank you LOL! I didn't mean to come across snarky, I apologize if I did. After I re-read it I thought it may have comr across that way. I really do appreciate the advice :)

I have said that I not only needed A & P in nursing school, I would have loved to go back and take it again after being a nurse a few years. I think taking it again now would really make me say "AHHH, NOW I understand!"

After taking classes like Patho Physiology I felt the same way, that I wanted to take it again. I would sit there listening to lecture and our teacher would constantly say "If you remember in Bio whatever number it was, but it was A&P we reviewed this, or if you look back at your notes from A&P" I took A&P at a different school a few years before that class, and I remember thinking WTH I don't remember this or that. So during Patho I was trying to relearn the A&P because that was the only way the stuff in Patho made sense.

Not sure if any of THAT made sense LOL, but I don't care if you rarely use it outside of nursing, if you expect to get through Patho and Nursing classes you will need to know it.

I can totally see that. I've started studying for my microbiology course that starts this Thursday (YAY SUMMER CLASSES! LOL) and it has SO much in it that I learned in A&P. It is equal parts Chemistry, A&P, and novel material. I used everything I learned in Chemistry in A&P and now I am going to use everything I learned in Chemistry again PLUS what I learned in A&P to get through this class. It definitely builds.

HAHA thanks for the kind words; after I read your first post to me I reread my post and realized it was overly dramatic and I would have been annoyed if someone wrote it to me, especially if I got an A in the course!!!!!!!(I did not, by the way :) I was high on life that night since I just found out I passed the NCLEX, and I felt smart all of a sudden lol.

As someone else who thinks you know what you're talking about...this post has just inspired me to definitely take all of the science pre-req's separately. I was going to take Chem AND Anatomy this fall, but I think now I should definitely take Chemistry first before diving into Anatomy or Physiology.

SoCaliGirl - Don't worry about taking any sciences together. I did AP 1 and Chem last semester together and got As in both. Summer semester I'm taking Micro and AP 2 and expect to do fine. If they are too dependent upon one another they will be a pre-reqs for your pre-req, lol. For example, in my Patho class you have to have AP 1&2 finished first. I didn't want to stretch out my nursing pre-reqs any longer than I had to.

Good Luck!!!

This thread made me think of a question that I've been wondering about, lol. I just finished A&P2 this semester...I got a "B" in 1 and 2. Is that good? Am I going to stuggle with nursing because I "only" got a Bs? I've just seen someone posters be somewhat upset if they've got a "B" in A&P and I'm frickin thrilled, lol. So to those that got Bs, are you doing ok in nursing school?

I am sure for all of us we want an " A " only because we want a high GPA

to get into the nursing school of are choice. Getting a B is fine now a C

is like omg try again...but an B is fine. I am taking Anatomy this summer

and next I will take Physiology or Chemistry , maybe both.lol:yeah:
