I will be starting this fall myself. I have three pre-recs left before I apply to NS. I will be taking A&P I this fall II this spring and micro this summer and apply to NS as well. So we all have a lot to do but it is exciting to take this journey with different people. So I wish you all the best of luck and take care.

i'm starting nursing prereqs this semester as well. i previously completed an aa degree so my ge stuff is pretty much done, but i've got to take anatomy, micro and physio to apply. i've heard horror stories about the classes, but i've been so fortunate to find this site and read all the helpful tips and links! i'm looking forward to keeping up with everyone's progress and sharing our questions and experiences!

well, as someone currently half way through the nursing program...i can tell you that those classes are nothing in comparison.
my advice is take these pre-req classes very seriously. a problem with the other pre-reqs is that those who teach them tend to baby people along and lower the bar to help everyone get through. the number of these sorts of teachers in a&p and micro tend to be much lower.
also, it is very important that you go above and beyond in these classes, as the nursing program will be much easier if you have a solid foundation in these classes. study more than you need to, pick up and store every little bit of info...because it is all useful.
i believe that anyone could easily get through the nursing program without having even taken nutrition or chemistry. but a&p and micro form the very foundation you will need to succeed in the nursing program.
this part is really important if it's an option to you:
do yourselves a favor and get any of these classes out of the way in a community college district if that is an option for you. we had three community colleges in my area in the same district....so i looked up course codes for all of their a&p classes. likewise, i had all of their registration pages up. because they all fell under the same college district, my registration time was valid at all of them at the same time.
by doing this, i was prepared and able to quickly navigate between the pages and sign up for a&p and micro classes that were hard to get.
one mistake people often do is they get into a class low on the waiting list, and then drop that class to try and sign up for another....and then figure out they can't get into the other class, and find themselves way further back on the original list. keep in mind that usually a few people will drop the class before it even starts, so if you're low on the list...ya might just want to hang in there.
likewise, increase your chances of getting into a program by applying to as many as you can. if you don't get into a program but there is another near by with similar pre-reqs...don't waste your time while waiting...take some extra classes to meet the pre-reqs of the other program to increase the number of programs you can apply to.
the average wait nation-wide is currently 2-3 years to get into a nursing program. you need to do whatever you can to minimise that, as it's bad enough dealing with the lame lottery.
anyhow, good luck newbies and take heart....everything goes by so very quickly!

Hi! I'm hoping to start my prereqs this fall also! I have a BA already in another area, so some of the general ed stuff is done already, but I'm meeting up with an advisor hopefully tomorrow to see what all transferred adequately. Since I work full time while my husband is in school also, I will only be able to take one prereq per semester (someone's gotta pay the bills! hehe) and I'm going to take Psych 101 online this fall. I can't wait!
