Kind of a weird situation, but I was at a party this weekend and (don't ask me why) the subject of shaving came up. One of the ladies is a hairdresser who does bikini and Brazilian waxes, and she said that she had a bunch of coworkers ask her to do Brazilians for them when they were pregnant because "the doctor/midwife told them to shave before the delivery".
???
I thought that pubic shaving before delivery went out of style 20-30 years ago. I even challenged this woman, asking if it wasn't just that these women were self-conscious and *chose* to be "bald" for their deliveries, rather than being "told to" do it by their OB/CNM. When I had my son 10 years ago, there was never any mention whatsoever about shaving from my midwife -- they didn't even shave me for my c-section. Another woman at the party has a 17yo and a 7yo and she was never told to shave by her OB. (all of these births happened in the same town, which only has two hospitals)
When I had knee surgery five years ago, I was very specifically told NOT to shave my leg for a week prior to the surgery, to minimize the chance of infection / microabrasions. I really did NOT want to go in there like a cactus, but at least I could understand the reasoning behind it.
I just truly cannot wrap my mind around this situation... it boggles my mind that anyone in this day and age would consider it "standard" or "necessary" to be shaved/waxed prior to the delivery. I know that more women than ever are shaving/waxing (pregnant or not) just as a personal grooming choice. A guy at the party said his stepmother has been an L&D nurse for eons and she had remarked a while back that shaving has become much more popular in the past 3-4 years.
But I just can't believe that there are OBs (and midwives! I *really* had a hard time believing that a CNM would say this!) out there telling women who are 8-9 months pregnant that they need to shave off their pubic hair before coming to the hospital, or else the hospital will shave it off when they get there.
I figure if anyone will know, it will be you folks here... is this really a standard procedure anymore???

again, yet another tangent, but did you know that turtles (or was it tortoises?) moan really loudly when they are... uh... let's call it "enjoying the horizontal tango"?
witnessed it myself at a local zoo. first they were "wrestling" and then one of them lets out this loud "uauauagghhh!" noise. must've been good, because he vocalized about half a dozen times!

LOL yeah! I asked my hubby about it once, lmao and he was not for it LOL, but hey I'd support him even if he wanted to color it rainbow colors lmao! But I'd still have to laugh a smidgen! :):)
Yeah that's the best part. Guys are always so proud of how they look when personally I think both men and women kinda are funny looking naked. And guys are so proud but think women can't be natural to look good.
But for people who think guys are bad for wanting hairless women, you do shave your legs right? Would you expect the guy to be into you if you had hairy legs and pits? I am just playing devil's advocate. I hate shaving and do it as little as I can get away with.
Yeah I was thinking about that too. I really have no problem with those who want to be bald and can see that men would appreciate it and like it or even prefer it. The only thing I have issue with is a man telling a woman she must do it. LOL, I just don't like being told what to do lol!!!!!!!!! :) I can not imagine the pain of waxing but hey its probably more effective than the old razor deal! :)

that is the only thing we are uncomfortable with . . . .. told what to do . . or else no nookie.
i can't imagine the pain of waxing either. but i was forced to have the "big shave" when i was in labor with my 1st child and the hair growing back was h e l l. it hurt and it itched like crazy. add the hemorrhoids from pushing for so long to that and i was not a happy camper.

my husband lived and taught in france for several years where women, for the most part, do not shave much of anything, which is typical of much of the world. i think many many american men of whatever age would be very surprised to discover that elsewhere on the planet, people don't insist on the overly
scrubbed, shaved, waxed, deodorized woman that they demand. i shower and wash my hair daily, shave
my legs and pits, but when i took a semester off from college and backpacked across europe with a friend, i became more natural. before you get out the brickbats, i'm in no way saying foreigners are
unclean. not at all. just more natural and less artificial.
All this time talking, you could have been grooming. Then I, in all my stallionhood, might want you. Anyways, I better check on my wife in the kitchen to make sure she isn't wearing any socks or shoes.
So glad that we haven't completely scared you away and that you have a sense of humor. Just remember when you might be thinking "stallion," we might be thinking "naked mole rat" or "turkey neck and gizzards."
