I hope it goes by fast. I have aged 5 years in 4 weeks. It is the regular staff members that are making it extremely rough for me. 9 weeks, 9 weeks. Sounds like an eternity!!!!!

OK, I have to ask.... why was the name of the hospital edited out??? Why is it not acceptable for travel nurses to utilize this site as a networking tool, sharing experiences (good AND bad) at different facilities, so other travelers know what to expect? Many of us travelers rely on others' experiences at certain hospitals when deciding if we will take an assignment there!

I'm just guessing, but I'd say it's because the traveler is still at that contract. Many don't want to post something on here with names until they are no longer at the place in case someone from the facility or agency read it (and many do!) and decide to make their life even more miserable.

But the traveler is the one who posted the name of the hospital they're at, and then it was later edited out by someone else (a moderator). If the traveler was OK with posting the name of the hospital in the first place, then why remove it?

Looking at the date on your original post, you should be down to only 7 weeks left now - Hang in there! (Only 21 shifts if you do the usual 36 hr. week)

Could you share where you work. I was just cancelled from a contract 2 weeks into it because staff was hired to replace me (their only traveler). Well, I should have expected it from Texas, since I left years ago because staff treated each other like cow patties. The 2 weeks were a living Hell. If I wasn't being outright ignored, I was being verbally abused. I need to find another position away from here and with another travel company. Since I have very poor skills at picking the right job, I would appreciate it if others could give me input so i do not have to make a judgemnt call again.

And to Raindrop, I feel your pain. I don't know what I would have done if I had to continue on there-needless to say, I wasn't exactly heartbroken when being told the contract was cancelled. Although I am jobless and maxed out on my credit cards, I am less stressed than when I worked for that Hellish place.

I was asking Angie O'Plasty about the travel friendly place that she works at. I don't want to make the same mistake again and would prefer going somewhere that welcomed travelers. Sorry I wasn't clearer.

maybe allnurses is concerned about being sued or something similar

There is another nursing board- www.ultimatenurse.com, that actually has a review section for travelers to review different hospitals they've been at, to share their experiences with others. I find it very helpful when considering new assignments.

If you tell us what states you are licensed in, or if you hold a compact license, you may get some suggestions of hospitals found to be traveler friendly. I've come across some in my years of traveling that I enjoyed and have even gone back to.

That's so nice of you! I'm licensed in TX with a compact license, also have PA and NY. I'll start working on NJ and CT liecenses as soon as I start some per diem work to pay down the credit card and afford to fix my car to handle the long trip out of here.

I do have to say that I feel blessed in having my own place to stay here. I can't imagine the horror that a traveler feels if they are cancelled after taking company housing that gets cancelled along with the contact. There has got to be something we can do for those travelers that are left penniless and homeless and aren't as fortunate to have their own place after a contract is suddenly cancelled-just not yet sure what it is... It just seems to me that a contract means nothing to the hospital or the agency; and, is only used as something to penalize the nurse who wants out of it. My contract was modified to prevent a non-cause cancellation; yet, it is not being honored and nothing is being put in writing to cancel the contract-I am just being told not to show up for work where the those vicious beasts were waiting

to verbally attack all their non-staff prey.

Sorry you are caught in such a mess! Unfortunately, some agencies will not challenge the hospitals on behalf of a traveler as they do not want to endanger their ongoing relationship with the hospital or system and the money they will get for future and current contracts. Not very fair, but an economic reality.

Since you hold a compact license, a lot of states are open to you without having to go through the delay of getting a new license. I'm trying to remember if AZ is compact (I'll come back and edit if I can find the list) but it's not too far away if you are in Texas now. I found a smaller hospital in Show Low, AZ (Navapache) to be really pleasant. I've been there twice and extended both times. I work OB, so can't speak directly to the other areas, but the overall tenor of the staff was friendly and on the rare occasion when I was floated to be an extra set of hands in other depts. the staff were very pleasant and glad for the help (not complaining that I didn't take a patient assignment). It's in the mountains, great area if you like skiing, fishing and outdoor activities when off. I also really enjoyed the hospital in Flagstaff, AZ but that was several years ago and I know they have been going through some things with trying to unionize, so not sure what the atmosphere is like now.

There are some hospitals I've heard good things about in Albuquerque, NM (a compact state) though I haven't worked at them others I know have. One of my friends speaks well of Presbyterian. I personally also enjoyed the hospital in Gallup,NM (the IHS facility) but that is an older government facility(with all the attendant issues) that some people don't care for. Some of the federal hospitals will allow you to work under any state license.
