Potential New School Nurse (Fingers Crossed!)

Published

Hi everyone! I know there are a bunch of similar posts, but I had to become part of such a supportive, funny community of fellow nurses. I've had my hand in school nursing over the past few years (subbing and part time 1:1 nurse), but have worked in various hospital settings as my primary job. I'm finally ready to make the leap and find a full time school nurse position. I am a finalist for a middle school position in a great Massachusetts community! I'm not sure how many finalists there are, but I will be meeting with the principal again and more administration the week after April vacation. Any words of wisdom? I've gotten a lot out of this forum, and I hope to officially join the pack in the next few weeks!

Have you subbed for that school district before? You are more than likely to be hired if you have. If not, mention the subbing experience because that is a major plus!

Unfortunately, it's not in one of the districts I sub for (I sub for two), but I made sure to highlight my subbing experience. I sub pretty frequently which will hopefully help, and I made sure the interview team knew that as well. I'm just nervous I'll be up against someone with many years of school nursing experience! That would probably seal the deal for them, but I'm hoping for the best!

I'll keep that outfit aside for the first day of school. Once the contract has been signed.

Had my second interview today! I didn't get the warm and fuzzies, but maybe that's just how it is. Met with the principal, assistant principal (both I met before) and Director of Student Services. They asked me a few questions I already answered, I glimpsed the Health Office because I asked to see it, met the current nurse who is retiring, and then it was over! On the way out the principal asked if it was okay to contact my references. Good sign? We'll see! Should hear by the end of the week.
