postpartum teachings

Hey guys. I missed this on one of my tests :( I don't remember what all the choices were but here in the correct one and the one I picked :chuckle I always miss the easy ones :-)

A client, who is postpartum day 2, is receiving discharge teaching from the nurse. What statement by the client indicates a correct understanding of danger signs that she should report to her health care provider?

A. "If I saturate one peripad in an hour, I should call my caregiver." B. "If my temperature is 101 F, I should call my caregiver."

I really don't remember what the other choices were. Which one of the above would you have picked? lol:heartbeat

I would have selected B, as this is a warning sign of infection. Saturating a single peri pad in an hour is not BY ITSELF a danger sign. It is the body's signal to take it easy and keep watch. If a lady is saturating a pad an hour for an extended period of time, particularly when she is more than a day postpartum, she should report this to her health care provider, or present to the ED if she cannot get hold of her dr/midwife (weekends or nights). Also, passing numerous large clots should be reported, as well.

One saturated pad by itself is nothing to get excited about.
