we've noticed a lot of new grad hiring woes: many places are not hiring. we think that many of you could benefit by sharing your experiences. thanks everyone....
well, the fact that you were let go d/t financial reasons rather than inadequacies is in your favor
you have also appeared to be very driven to me as well. you will get through this. Im sorry for your road bump.
I am a new grad studying to take the NCLEX next month. I live in California in the East Bay. This is the worst area for jobs. I graduated towards the top of my class and was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau, but that has not gotten me anywhere. I am going to concentrate on passing the NCLEX and then I will start job hunting, but I may have to move or even look out of state. It is hard not to be discouraged.
I'm in the bay area, and let me tell you I would start looking out of state pronto. I wised up after 6 months of looking/working for free in a RN residency in the bay area. Not to mention, many other states including the ever so talked about Texas are wising up to us CA new grads and only hiring new grads from the area to prevent people from just staying a year and leaving.
I took a job out of state and start this month. I was very stubborn about not moving and now I wasted 6 months...
Good luck
I graduated in May 2008, licensed in Oct 2008. Finally got interviews in Feb 2009 and jumped at the first place to offer me a job. Big mistake out of many in my life. This job did not work out because I was having trouble with the LPN to RN transition and no one figured it out until after I requested a transfer. This after 9 weeks on orientation. I even talked to my manager and we both felt a less acute unit would be best. Too bad there weren't any. I was terminated after 3 months in transfer status due to no jobs available. Now I'm unemployed again with a baby on the way, now living back at home with hubby at home with my mom. Don't know if I'll ever get an interview with yet another short job on my resume. I've made many mistakes in my life as an LPN as I had several short stay jobs.
2009 ended as badly as it began. I hope 2010 is better. One bright spot is I have a wonderful hubby, a very supportive mom, and a little one on the way. Ok that more than one.
So my first job as an RN was a big fat bust. I had gotten my dream job in NICU as an RNA, but that didn't work either....only on that one for 4 weeks. How the heck am I going to get an interview now?
