Post-masters psychiatric NP program at Stonybrook, Summer 2016

Published

Hi all. I am interviewing for the post masters certificate to psych NP at Stonybrook on Jan 27th. Trying to find others in the same track as mine. Any info on the program, interview, acceptance, difficulty of the courses for a full time working nurse, fees etc will be much appreciated!

Interview went great. It was Dr. Sprung and another professor. They gave a good explanation about the program. There were 3 other candidates at the same time as me and it was a group interview as expected. Asked me why psych, why Stonybrook and more about my experience. Very friendly and open atmosphere. Might take almost a month to hear back from them as they need to present their candidates in front of an admissions committee and stuff. At the end they asked us to type an essay on a mental health topic they gave you. Good experience overall. Anyone else that completed the interview want to share their experience? Much appreciated!

Sounds like it went well! Thanks so much for sharing...would love to hear others experiences too! I'm ready to get the interview over with...but then the wait a month to hear will be tough! I interview Monday at 11am.

I really hope to be accepted! About how long was the whole process? Just trying to figure out when I will make it home!

Thanks again

Carrie

Close to 2 hours I would say. They said the meeting with the university is in 2 weeks. So if you interview on the 1st of Feb u should hear from them at the same time as us.

Great...one more question...as far as dress..."dressy professional" or more casual professional? I was planning on slacks and suit jacket, but don't want to be over dressed...not sure if I should treat it like a job interview or more like a business meeting (if that makes sense!).

Carrie

I would treat it more like a business meeting. I just wore a nice dress pants and shirt. Nothing too fancy needed, I would say. Ohh by the way can you also clarify about the onsite requirements. My memory of her explaining it was one every semester for 2 days. Can u make sure what I heard was right? Pls and thank you!

Hi! The interview went well...there was a large group before me (maybe 6-8?). There were only 3 in my group, I think both would enroll into the Masters (not post). I totally forgot to verify the onsite requirements...she did say it is 2 days...not sure if it is every semester. I do know the orientation is April 21st, just one day from the sound of it. They meet next Wednesday with the University and she said we should hear something in 6 weeks...so it's a waiting game now.

The drive down was a little long...glad I decided to drive down on Sunday! I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn on the Stony Brook campus...will hopefully be staying there again! :)

Glad to hear that your interview went well. I am eagerly awaiting answers. I too was glad to see the Hilton. It is a long commute...

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express at Stony brook. Chose that coz they have free shuttles to the campus and to the airport anytime you need. How was the experience at Hilton?

Hilton was nice, they do have a free shuttle to the hospital, I would imagine they may have airport too..but I drove down so did not use it. I may look into flying down at some point...how far is the airport?

Any update on the process? Any body got emails from them yet?

Nothing yet! I'm trying not to think about it...lol. I think they were meeting yesterday...we probably won't hear anything for a few more weeks...
