Few weeks ago, against many peoples’ wise recommendations, I naively decided to enroll into Walden’s online MSN program. I’m only half way through my first class and realized this is not going to work out for me. I’m glad I didn’t sink any more money into them. Not to discourage anyone currently in their program, it’s just not for me. I can give more details to anyone who is interested but that’s not the point of this post. So, I’m looking at brick and mortar schools and I don’t want to wait another 9 months to start in fall. I’m considering getting another master’s degree (psychology/counseling), and then getting my post masters certification in PMHNP. Is it realistic to be able to do this in 3 years or so? Do most post-masters certificate program accept people with MSN only? I saw one that required Masters in any program, so that made me excited to explore some other areas to study. My main goal is to be PMHNP, I’m trying to see if there are other options besides traditional route that doesn’t require too many years. Thanks in advance!

Are you considering MSN PMHNP programs as well? Applications now, even for most programs withe multiple entry times would most likely be for a Summer start. And, for most programs (non-PMHNP) while the post-master's option excluded you from retaking some of the basic MSN core classes, there really wasn't much of a time savings as the advanced pathophysiology, pharmacology, and physical assessment generally began in the first or second semester.
I'm curious, which accepts students into a post-master's program with a non-nursing master's degree?
Best wishes.
I believe Western U does based on their admission criteria posted here: https://prospective.westernu.edu/nursing/pmhnp/requirements/
The more I think about it, I think it’s better to stick with traditional MSN-PMHNP route instead of trying to be creative. I just read federal loans don’t cover certifications. Thanks for your insights!

My recommendation is to avoid short cuts and doing multiple degrees at the same time, and simply go to a reputable PMHNP program and focus 100% of your effort in it.
Thanks, umbdude, I think I will. I’ve just been incredibly disheartened and disgusted by my experience with Walden that idea of another route excited me. But I know there are much better schools.
