Possible relocation to Tyler, Texas...

Published

Hi everyone,

After a long search for the perfect new grad position, Texas has been very welcoming and promising for me. I recently got a call from Trinity Mother Frances in Tyler, TX for the general medical unit and wanted to ask my fellow Texans, who know the area, affordable places to live and where I should be looking. I will be visiting for my interview next month (Aug. 2009) and wanted to look around. Wish me luck everyone... oh and an update on the hospital would be greatly appreciated. :wink2:

Much love & aloha

Hi Sharkasurf,

I am interviewing with Trinity soon and wondered if you could provide any insight as to the actual interview process (i.e., types of questions, setting, technical questions) and if they utilized the HireVue webcam system when you applied?

Thank you for your time,

GeoMan :)

Do you live in Texas or will you have to move there? Im doing the HireVue Interview this weekend. You know anything about the place? If all goes well I'd be relocating from South Florida. Keep me posted on how things go, we may see eeach other there...And what position you going for if I may ask??

I live in Indiana currently. I was told that Trinity will provide a $3,000.00 relocation bonus if you are coming from out of state. I just received my HireVue web-cam yesterday. It appears there will be nine questions. It's pretty nerve racking knowing you have 30 seconds to read an answer and then you will be recorded ready or not...lol. I have read good things on here about Trinity...one of the reasons I applied. They are known for being new-grad friendly and seem very nice. My recruiter just told me they will be building a seven story heart hospital phase two, which will be complete in 18 months. I will probably take a med-surg spot if offered. I wish you well on the HireVue interview and we just might work together :)

30 seconds...Im good at thinking on my feet but...30? LoL...I wish you all the best in your 8 and 1/2 minutes of interviewing! 3,000 sounds good to start with. I looked up the cost of living already, couldnt help myself, hehe. It soo far from the big cities as well. I like small towns as long as I have internet, long distance and cable, lol. The hospital does really seem to like new grads but I havent found any new positing since 2010. I just put up a new one asking for feedback from anyone in the area. I like to do my research! LoL! I didnt want to ask bc it seemed too early. But do you know of the length of the contract, or pay scale? I know pay is less but income isn't taxed in Texas so it may very well be more in comparison to other states. Anyways, good look again and I'll send you any info I find. Im just wondering if I'll be able to find any Jamaican food there...much less a West Indian grocery...lol. Im Jamaican and can cook most things but not everything and without a place to find ur ingredients...lol I'm gettin hungry just thinking about it.

Tyler is only about 1.5 - 2 hours from Dallas. Not to mention that it's a city of nearly 100k itself. They have internet and cable tv...heck, they even have running water and indoor toilets.

Um...I think thats a given, lol. I know internet and cable are available, thats just what I need personally to be so far from my immediate family. And 1.5 to 2 hrs is far to me. I dont like driving and being in Ft. Lauderdale you can get to Miami or West Palm Beach in 30 to 40mins...And those are 3 big cities. Do they have a Caribbean population...any stores that cater to that pop?

And I can't help but asking...were u being sarcastic? My point was I can live anywhere as long as I have those things so I can skype family n such...so if it was..no need for it. Wasn't trying to downgrade a place I'm considering moving to but it seems u might of took it that way...but prob not right?;)

I was joking.

As far as Caribbean population, no...not much. And you won't find many (if any) stores catering to that pop. Tyler is in rural East Texas, and its not very multicultural as a whole.

I don't think the cost of living is too bad...no state income taxes and the pay is probably comparable to the sourounding cities. I have not seen any new postings either. Maybe everyone is gamefully employed and too tired to post...lol. As far as specialty cuisine, I don't have a clue, but Dallas is not too far. Try looking up info. on Tyler by going to www.city-data.com, it has lots of detailed info on most cities. Let me know how the interview goes. I will be taking mine on Monday :) I wish you the best!!!!

Great Boratz! I think Allnurses makes my paranoid to some extend, lol. Hard to tell whats a joke...been dragged thru the mud on this site b4  Anywho, R u in Tyler urself..any more info...I'm guessing you dont work for Trinity tho. Hey, but all I need is one store, lol..find my apt around there, as long as the neighborhood isnt too crazy...not lots of kids...I love em but a few at a time, lol and not lots of door to door stuffs. cant help but think that the Tyler websites are too good to be true, lol. It looks like a stepford ttype town on there...we'll see.

Thanks for the well wishes GeoMan! Keep me posted on ur progress!

I am not currently in Tyler/East Texas, but I most assuredly wish that I were. If only there was a NICU job market there, I'd move back in a heartbeat.

Didn't want to start a brand new thread....

My DH accepted a job at TMFH and we will be relocating from DFW. From what I've read, south Tyler and south of Tyler are the better areas to live. Any thoughts or comments about Lindale area? We would like to make our drive back to DFW as short as possible but still be within 10-20 minutes of the hospital. The single family home rental market seems to be really low and/or not as affordable as I'd hoped. Any advice or suggestions of other areas to look at would be appreciated. Thanks!

Lindale is kind of a hike and traffic might be kind of bad for him. I would look towards Whitehouse or Flint. There are TONS of homes for sale in that area under $100K with three bedrooms...you should be able to have your pick!
