**Positive Thinking for the NCLEX!**

Published

Ok guys, I know there's a bunch of us that are studying our little butts off for the NCLEX. We're doing tons of practice questions each day, we're reading everything we can, and we're stressing about it! Everyone says we need to keep a positive attitude and in all the NCLEX books I've read it says the same thing .... positive thoughts are important.

Is there anything you're doing each day while studying to keep a positive attitude about this? I know in Saunders it mentions writing a notecard with your name and RN after your name, and then under that with the word "YES", and putting that somewhere so you can see it throughout the day while you're studying. I haven't done that yet, but it doesn't sound like a bad idea. I want to get all the bad thoughts out of my head.

We can do this! We WILL pass the NCLEX!

Please share any tips or positve thoughts, we can use all we can get! :)

Here are a few good tips I got from a website:

*Always use only positive words in your inner dialogues. Use words such as, I can, I am able, it is possible, it can be done, etc.

*Accompany your inner dialogues with feelings of happiness, strength and success.

*Do not heed negative thoughts. Calmly refuse to think these thoughts, and substitute them with constructive happy thoughts.

*In your conversations with other people use words that evoke scenes of strength, happiness and success in their minds.

*Before starting with any plan or action, visualize clearly in your mind its successful outcome. If you visualize with concentration and faith, you will be amazed at the results.

*Read at least one page of inspiring literature every day.

*Watch movies that make you happy.

*Listen to the news and read the papers, but do that sparingly and with detachment.

*Associate yourself with people who think positively.

*Always sit and walk with your back straight. This will strengthen your confidence and inner strength.

*Walk, swim or engage in some other physical activity. This helps to develop a more positive attitude.

Think positive and expect only favorable results and situations, even if currently your life is not as you wish it to be, and in time your mental attitude and your your life circumstances will change accordingly.

This is an excerpt from a student's perspective in the Saunder's book that I found uplifting:

" Don't fear the NCLEX, the fear is worse than the reality

. . .. Trust yourself and be confident.

Trust in yourself that you are intelligent and well educated.

Trust that all of your studying and hard work will pay off.

Trust that you will do the best that you can.

And finally, trust that all that is meant to be will somehow fall into place."

Thanks, Christine!! :)

Nurse2B2005, thank you for posting that, that helps!!

Good idea! I was thinking this last night. I scrapbook in the evening to take my mind off stuff. It helps me relax to do something I love doing.

I write RN behind my name too to help! Which it does.

I also try and take a 10 question quiz after I'm done my quota of 150/day. Usually I score high on these. I guess you can say end in a positive note.

Good luck to everyone! I take my exam August

I found this in one of my review books, don't remember which...

Smile!

Belief!

Confidence!

Control!

Success!

I have this pinned on my bullentin board, I think it works for NCLEX and also starting our new RN jobs!!!!! Good Luck everyone! ( I love allnurses.com but I also know I spend time I should be studying.....

:uhoh21: i have been working since i graduated as a graduate nurse, so i haven't had the time i feel that i needed to study. be that as it may, i am taking my boards this friday. i have been told that the longer you wait, the better your chances are of failing. i have to work 10 hour days right up to thursday. i was a good student in school, but i lack self-confidence.

any words of wisdom? what should i be looking at right now? when do i stop studying and how do i get over this procrastination/easily distracted frame of mind that i am in?

my husband keeps telling me that i will do fine, i do hope he is right!

any encouragement would be appreciated.

cheryl :uhoh3:

cdhaywood... I can certainly relate to the procrastination, and I haven't even started working yet! If you are scoring in the range that is considered "ready" for what ever program you are using, such as Kaplan score of 65%, then go for it. If you are not scoring where you feel comfortable, you could always cancel your test date and reschedule (I think the cancellation time is 48 hr, but not sure). Anyway, I am sure you are more prepared than you think! Just go with the confident attitude! Good Luck! Let's us know how you make out!

i can do this!!!!!!!!

god help me, i'm starting to really panic :(

hi rain, when are you going to sit for nclex?

Great positive thoughts everyone, keep them coming!! :)

Cheryl, I'm taking the test the day before you do and I'm going through all the same kind of questions and self-doubt as you are. I don't think anyone ever feels prepared for the NCLEX, we just have to go in there and do the best we can. Confidence is so important just keep telling yourself that YOU WILL PASS. I wish you the best of luck on Fri., keep us updated!

PresC - I test on Thurs! That's just 4 days away!!!! I hate this anticipation, I just wish it was over already. I think I'll study tomorrow and Tues and then take Wed. off .... I might go over some notecards on Wed. but I'm not doing any questions on that day, I want to be fresh and ready on Thurs. to answer as many questions as I need to.

Thank you so much! :) That means a lot to me that you'll pray for me. I'm so lucky, I have so many people praying for me, my dad was telling me tonight that all the family and church friends are praying for me and wishing me luck. I'm praying for everyone too that's preparing to take it, we can all do this. Thanks PresC, you're a good friend :icon_hug:

I'm far from taking the NCLEX, but thank you for such great list. I will print it and put it in the fridge. I am sure it will keep me motivated to get through school. :)
