Portage Learning STATISTICS

Was wondering if anyone has taken their Statistics online threw them? I need to take it for the summer and I am okay in math but would like more info? How is the learning? How are the videos? What major things were hard? How were tests?

Thanks!

I am wondering the same. Have you taken it yet?

I am taking the Stats and it is tough if your not a math person. They make up the tests and the teacher personally grades it so you have to describe everything for your answers. You have to use your own words.

It can be frustrating because I said one word like he did and he said I plagiarized and I asked him what other word do I use? He marked my whole answer wrong even though I got answer right. He told me I should have thought of a better way to describe it.

What I also don't like is you watch the videos for hours then if u take the test you are timed on these exams. Which its slot.

Honestly I think online is much harder in person.

How did you wind up doing in the statistics class? Any tips?

Thanks

I thought it was a good class. It wasn't hard to make an A, but wouldn't say it was a breeze either. I worked all the modules backwards and forwards. Carried a high A throughout the course.

How long did it take you? I know it differs for everyone depending on their schedule, but I was just curious. Thanks

I did the class in 7 weeks. It took a bit of effort to get it done on that timeframe. I did it during the summer while my kids were not in school, so it seemed a bit stressful. But only bc I had a self-imposed deadline.

Ok, that's about the time frame that I would need. Lastly, how long did it take for you to receive your grades on assignments, exams, etc. How long to receive your final grade? Thanks so much!

Tests were graded usually in a few hours, occasionally it took until Monday if it was a weekend. My instructor (first name was Matt I believe) was really helpful and encouraging. I really liked him. I'm not sure if there are multiple stats instructors or just him?? But he was great.

Did you have access to the material right away or did you have to wait for an instructor to contact you?

Access to material was typically w/in a day of signing up. You have to take a pre-test at the beginning of each course. It is NOT graded, just to see your knowledge on the subject. After that is reviewed, you can see the modules. I was almost always in on day 1.

@Gmare

Hey, how is your experience with portage so far? I am thinking of taking statistics online through them.

Thanks.

Hi! It was a good experience. The professor was always available and would "break down' a problem if I needed help. That was really the only con- sometimes answers were shown but the steps weren't. Maybe if there was a video to go along with some of the modules, too. Perhaps they figured students knew certain types of math to achieve the answer. However, it's been awhile for me, so I needed to know how certain answers were arrived at and the professor was very helpful. It was a tough class, because I'm not a math person, so I studied/practiced a lot. Thankfully, I was able to get an "A"! I would definitely recommend them! Hope all goes well! :-)
