PNAP

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hello. I am just wondering if there are other individuals who have successfully completed, or are currently in, PNAP program and have a career as a nurse? I just entered the PNAP program and am doing everything possible to completely recover and be a better husband, father and nurse. There are many articles listing negative reviews about PNAP and just curious if there are any updated comments anyone has on them. Thank you.

Tommy, I have an entire “manifesto” of my awful Pnap experiences and I’m willing to share with u. Please email me. [email protected]. I’m beyond anonymity now. This program destroyed me and my career. I’m willing to fight the fight !!

Hi @facemuscles and @nursepw2017

I’d love an update from either of you!

My update is that BON are the cruelest and most unfair bunch of old biddies. A fellow nurse in the program relapsed on stolen narcs and got ONE year suspension. I could no longer afford to pay to be in the program and dropped out. They gave me a THREE yr suspension!

it doesn’t make sense.
I think THEY are all on drugs!

As for the legislature, no clue.

Thank you for asking for an update. Since the legislature has to go through the Senate, I was working with two senators to make the changes I laid out in my proposal. They agreed that there were issues and that things needed changed.

Currently, they are figuring out the zoning for the issue. I just got an update a couple days ago. It's a long standing issue, so the idea now is to be patient.

I'm working with a lawyer who helped write PNAP to take care of the PNAP participants on a case-by-case basis. He is very understanding, is willing to work with is financially, and know the PNAP contract as well as anyone. Several nurses have worked with him with success.

As I have repeatedly said, my goal is not to dismantle PNAP since some of us really need help. There are a number of issues that prevent recovering or recovered nurses from being able to practice that are completely unassociated with drug or alcohol use, or poor behavior. That is unfair and should not exist. These "catch-22's" and other traps need to be removed so a true therapeutic environment can exist.

If anyone wants to get in touch with the lawyer we've been using (myself and other pnap nurses) leave me a message and I'll get you in touch with him and his team.

Good luck to everyone!

Just curious who the attorney is?

The guy I was recommended to by PNAP took my 3k lied to me and really did nothing I couldn’t have done myself.

Definitely not the same attorney. We should all be aware by now that PNAP is not going to give us helpful info. I still have your email. I'll hit you up when I get home later.

I am wondering the same, I need to get a hold of this attorney ASAP as I need to make serious life decisions. Whether to stay in the area or move away.

Thank you!

Please note that members cannot recommend specific lawyers. Please check TAANA for nurse lawyers who are very well versed on nursing licensure for assistance.

Good day,

This is my first post on here. My wife gave me a link to this thread. I am currently working with some lawmakers to try to get PNAP reformed. The program is a one-size-fits-all, forces us to leave our jobs without the ability (usually) to get back into a comparable position, and it has a high rate of recidivism. The idea that forgetting to check a urinalysis is treated the same as a relapse is crazy. There should be a way to get test as soon as a person realizes they have missed. I suggested having the day a person is select, and the next day, to be able to get the test. We have lives. If anyone wants to help me, feel free to get in contact. The state is doing their budget currently and they will be reviewing our case right afterward. Right now, the proposal is with the Auditor General. He thinks we have a shot. We need more voices though. Honestly, right now I'm working on my own. I know about 30 PNAP nurses, but everyone is apathetic. They agree with change, but aren't willing to make a move. We are Cash For Nurses.

Good luck in the program,

Tommy Lee RN, BSN

Wondering if you have any updates ?

I couldn't do all that was required in pnap so I was ruled out as non compliant before I really even got started. It wouldn't have mattered anyway because the hospital I was at charged me criminally....felony for suspicious circumstances around 1 5mg oxycodone pill. Anywho....10 yrs mandatory suspension for felony. It's been nearly 9 years. It's been a horrible hellish 9 yrs too. I definitely feel like things were unfair. I recovered, with my own program and rehab.. I can petition the board in 2023 for my license back (that would make my entire world)...but I feel like I'll never be given that privilege back without more hurdles to jump through. It upsets me to see RNs from other states seeming to "get off easy" ....still be able to work, etc....it's unfair. Pennsylvania is rough for anything!! I think rules should be across state lines all the same.

Ohhh I had an attorney too....paid him thousands and he didn't/couldn't do *** and knew it before taking my money. Then when the criminal charges came up he wanted another few thousand to help me there. Said he could get felony down to a misdemeanor....that could've saved my career and livelihood. But I already paid him all I had for " the administrative part". I wasn't working. I got the felony. Screwed for life.
