I'm an overseas nurse and am planning to work as a nurse in the states few years later.
but my concern is if I have less chances to get a job because of my career.
worked in med/surg for 3 years from 2000-2003.
and I have been working as clinicall research nurse at the hospital field for 2.5years.
(medicine for 1.4 years, 1 year for occology part.)
1.is my research nurse career minus for getting a job there? or ok? (don't mind nursing home or else.) can it be considered as recent work experience?
2.if it finish family NP program, could my situation be better in the job market?
please give me any advice..

Before you can have a job/career in the US you need a work permit. Worry about that first.

If you are planning on moving to the US then immigration and visas are the issue.
As others have stated, finding a job at this point, unless you are a US citizen, trained in the US, visa/immigration is the first issue.
The US is also going thru a very deep recession - unemployment is at a 30 year high.
I don't mean to sound discouraging but you might want to consider other options.
hm, don't get me wrong....n.n
i will get green card within few years and it's on the process now. (so that is not my problem)
i already know about economic recession there.
that's why i'm worried about my career in my country.
actually,i heard that it's really hard to get a job without us experience in this recession although i have enough work experience in my country.
so, my career could be useless there.
my problem is that without research career, i don't have any recent career and i don't have any plan to change my career now.
for these reasons, i just want to know when a clinical research nurse go back to bedside nursing,,, commonly, genereally(in the case of us citizens) whether it's ok or not.
it's a very simple question^^;.
does anyone can tell me?
anyhow, i hope that the economy boost soon again for you, for me....
Have you applied for a nursing license in the state you want to move to?
yes I have RN license in NY and visascreen certificate which is nedded for international nurses.

I would say you clinical experience is outdated, to get a position you will need to attend a nursing refresher course. New Graduates are taking 9 months to one year to find a position. Usually foreign graduates are hired after all the new graduates are employed. You lack of recent experience and the fact you are foreign trained is not in your favor.
I do find it confusing though, most green cards are through employment, unless you are being petitioned by a family member your chances of employment are zero.
thanks for the reply.

Job market here is very bad right now. Your plus side is you already have a clinical nursing experience so you actually have that bit of an advantage over a new grad. And since you are experienced in Clinical (MedSurg) and in research positions. You can apply to either positions. You might have to take some classes here in U.S. about Research GCPs and all. Make sure before you leave your country that you get recommendation letters from your employers, nursing supervisors, DON. But then again, realized that it is recession here.
My niece is a foreign grad RN, but was able to get a job in a hosp. Like you, she already have a green card before coming here. So it was not a problem.
Good luck!
