Hello all, I am rather depressed right now and looking for a little advice. I am a pre-nursing student and Certified Nursing Assistant. I am currently attending Georgia State in hope of applying to their accelerated program this fall. I recently spoke to an advisor for the program and reviewed acceptance stats/info and have concluded that I will never get in anywhere with my gpa!! I was registered for 15 credits this summer just to meet the requirements for the deadlines. I got all As in A&P and Microbiology, and my gpa was just above a 3.7. However, this Chemistry class I am taking right now might possibly bring it down to just below a 3.7, and I am already below the program's average gpa of 3.83 (the applicants have low TEAS scores and high GPAs). My institutional GPA is higher, but this program focuses on nursing pre-reqs. I am highly depressed, as I worked very hard for these grades while working full time and dealing with a million other things, and can't stand that 3 Bs (B PLUSES at that) may put me out of the running. I took some of my pre-reqs at a Technical college, and my GPA there was close to a 4.0. I was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa because of it.

I have experience in the medical field, am working on a second language (not mention I write awesome essays/papers that have always blown professors away), recommendation letters from professors and friends who work at other universities, and volunteer experience. Do I have a chance? What did you lovelies get in your pre-reqs to get accepted? I have been studying for the TEAS like a madwoman and plan to take it when I finish Chem. A friend just told me she was denied from Kennesaw state with a 3.75 GPA and 91 teas score. Another had a 3.65 and very high TEAS score. I see no hope, and these unrealistic standards keep increasing every year. What should I do? As all of the schools in my area are so hard to get into, and people with higher GPAs than me are getting rejected. Should I consider an RN to BSN route? I need to make money and cannot keep playing these games with nursing admissions for the rest of my youth. I transferred to GSU because the Technical college "LOST" my academic file (long, ridiculous story) and claimed they could not evaluate me. I feel like giving up....

Specializes in Maternal Child, Home Health, Med/Surg.

I have a 3.0 in my general pre requisites. So far, I have a 4.0 in my sciences :)

4.ohohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Mine was like a 3.5-3.8. It's a big range but I did classes like fire science and random junk classes I did between high school and going to another university before coming back to do my associate's in nursing.

I was formerly a student at GA State as well. The high expectations at GA state at largely due to the massive amounts of applications the school receives each semester because of it's fairly low tuition in comparison to other schools in the state. That being said, I was wait listed in the mid-twenties at GA state for two consecutive semesters with a ~3.7 program GPA and ~3.6 overall. Needless to say, 25 students did not forfeit their seats, and therefore I was not accepted. I was accepted to another institution with higher NCLEX pass rates and much more prestige than state, however! :) just hang in there, do your best, and apply to as many schools as possible. They are not all as demanding as GA state. Advisors from multiple schools told me that, as long as you have a 3.5, you WILL get in a program.

Where do you go to school? I want there! Lol

2.97 gpa 112 point score on my NLN PAX RN pre nursing entrance exam. I start September 3rd for my ADN program.

Ty where are you going? I'm applying to some programs in ma :)

It all depends on where you are applying, around here (Hampton Roads VA) people are getting the thanks but no thanks and wait listed with 4.0 GPA's. It just depends on the school you are applying to and the applicant pool.

My friend got into our community college nursing program with a 2.90. I wanted to go straight through the BSN program so I have a 3.47 and I'll let you know in October if I got in lol.

I have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and a pre req GPA of 3.1. My score on the HESI A2 was 92%, and I was very surprised I got into the nursing program at my school. I thought I would get in for the Spring term because it is less competitive but apparently they wanted me for Fall! I was selected first as an alternate and stayed that way for one week before getting my acceptance letter. My grades honestly arent that bad but I had to take a bunch of math prep classes because my ACT scores were low in math and I continually got C's in every math course I took besides Statistics. I have one C in A&P1 as well, the rest of my grades are A's and a few B's.

I got accepted to GPC with a 3.7 gpa and 67.3% on that ridiculous TEAS test.
