how many of you have already started studying for next semester?

i have to come clean! i have purchased most of my books. i would have purchased them all, but some are not in, yet. in dosage & calculations, i have completed all exercises through ch 4. in fundamentals, i have read the first 3 chapters and completed all definitions, study questions & outlines.

yes, i am a nerd!

should i be doing anything else? any hints, tips or advice?

Have looked thru books, the ones that are in, studying Cliff Notes for A&PII. Feel like I should be reading textbooks, novels don't sound interesting right now.

Happy Holidays!

I hate to tell you this but I didnt study all last term out of any book all of our tests questions are out of lecture only. If its not in lecture its not on the test. All of our tests are multiple choice I think that its a good system ( getting us ready of nclex)

:o I wish i could start early but the bookstore will not be open to buy books till the second week of January :o So i will only have my books for one week before classes start. On a positive note, one of the books i have from last semester is also used for this semester, but like some of the rest of you, my teachers skip around so it is almost impossible to study ahead of time without sitting and reading the entire book!

Traci

Specializes in tele, stepdown/PCU, med/surg.

Don't worry girl, I'm not giving you anymore than you already have to do! hehehe

I do have a question though. You said you've read the first few chaps and done study questions and outlines. Are those required to answer or are you torchering yourself for fun?

Oh and I use Potter and Perry too. Isn't it a great book? (not!) Someone said it would make a good door stop.

Z

zacarias,

yes, i am torturing myself for fun! the syllabus will not be released until jan 7th, so i am just trying to get ahead a little bit.

like i said earlier, i am a nerd!

i read every page assigned. most of the test was from lecture but anything in the assisgned pages was fair game. we also had multiple choice questions, of course there were always 2 answers that could be right, but you have to figure out which was the best answer.

shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Me, too.....

Even though I am not sure which classes I will have, it is a choice of Nursing 3 or Abnormal Psych and Exceptional person. I checked the psych books outa the library, and already have the nursing books.....so I am going full bore on that. That's what I do when I get a sec on nights. I also read a chapter at a time into a tape, and play it on the road, (I drive 62 miles one way to work most of the time...)

Same here, StudentSandra. Our teachers explained the most difficult aspects in lecture, and based our quizzes on lectures.

Our midterm and final, however, were over all chapters covered, whether or not the material was covered in lecture. So if we don't read the book, we won't pass. Extremely tough, but will help us with NCLEX in the long run.

ladyj, what side of s il are you on? i'm over here on the east side near in.

Peace and quiet - is that too much to ask? Allow time (breaks) and soak in the jacuzzi (find one if you can) Let someone watch the kids if you have some --- I find that SILENCE (except for some classical music softly in the background) is very stimulating.... and I really read stuff too --- nursing interventions --- this is YOUR job as a nurse --- and I believe what the main focus of the "big test" is - what it is that a nurse needs to know to do the job! CD roms are my favorite! Better and quicker and funner than books!;)

I going into my 6th semester and I know what you mean, I need to keep myself in the studying mode. besides I enjoy learning!! I guess I am a 39 year old nerd. I do not have my books yet for next semester My classes are Peds/OB, Patho-Pharm and Nursing research. What I am doing is surfing the internet and picking up lots of interesting sites to help me next semester. There are some really great resources out there!! Good luck with the rest of your schooling:D
