Where there is a will, theres a way...

You can try taking a few more classes to raise your gpa, you might even be able to repeat some of those classes to raise your gpa. I believe if you want it bad enough you can do it!! Try talking to an academic advisor and see what they suggest. Also, I have read on here that some people do get in with gpa's lower than yours. You definately came to the right place for support though, I'm sure a lot of people have better advice than me...but I'm a late nighter so thought i'd post while you wait til the am for some better advice.

Good luck and don't get discouraged, you'll find many people who were once in your shoes and have great success stories.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but you would have to retake all of your classes, especially the life science ones. The requirements for nursing schools are high for a reason: the program is tough and normally, if you had the As in your prereqs, you get Bs while you are on the program, if you had Bs, you get Cs, etc. Also there are a lot of people who are trying to get into nursing, so the schools want to meke sure that they are giving priorities to the right people. Don't be depressed, life is short. If it is really what you want to do, just retake the classes, it will be easier to do it for the second time.

first of all, thank you both for your support.

I am in california and my college won't let me retake the classes unless I have a "D" or an "F" grade. I am thinking of attending another college where I am allowed to take one of the classes I recieved a "C" in. It would be very easy for me to get an "A" in anatomy this time around.

Thing is I messed up. I tried to make up for it and I worked really hard in my 3 week psysiology class and got a "B". So now I know how to do better. I am just scared it might be too late. If I retake the anatomy class and recieve a grade of "A" it will raise my gpa to 3.0.... but ppl reading my transript will see the retake. This is what I am scared of. I donno what to do :(

Those grades are not necessarily too low - it really depends on the school. Some schools don't have the waiting lists, and competition as others. They are probably too low for a community college - but probably not for an expensive private school - it all depends on what the competition is like. I don't agree that you do not as well in nursing classes. I got B's and C's in my prereq's (with the sciences all being C's) and I have yet to get anything less than an A in a single nursing assignment/exam/quiz. I think it has to do with interest level. I would definitly not give up - look into different schools and apply - there is no harm in applying to different places

I disagree that she has to retake ALL of them. There is no question that she needs to retake the courses she has a C in but it all depends on her local schools and she needs to check wth them to find out what their requirements are, and this varies by region.

I have a 3.0 overall, but that is for a BS degree with 130 plus hours. However, my science GPA is 3.75, which is more than competitive, and the one that they use in admissions calculation in 3 of the schools I'm looking at. The TEAS test that I have to take carries 40% weight for admission. Others, however, look at overall GPA, and I'm not even applying to those.

So, it all depends on where she lives. No question that she has to retake the science.

Colleges could care less about a retake. That is what the grade replacement system is for and I have never heard of a college admissions board looking negatively at a retake.

Look around at the various colleges in your area. At our local community college as long as you have a minimum GPA you're considered. They strictly use NLN scores.

Good luck!

Before you start retaking classes talk to an advisor at school. Many schools will not allow you to retake classes that you have gotten a C or better in. Mine will only allow people to retake classes with a D or an F.

Another thing you could try is looking into as many schools as possible, the ones that Take Wait lists generally have a minumum gpa 2.5 typically and then you just wait. My school takes the highest GPA's however it has a 20% lottery spot, we are a small school so in the fall they take 12 students 2 of which are lottery, in the spring they take 24 so I think its 4 lotto spots.

So keep plugging away, look into as many programs as possible and when you are taking your pre reqs many lighten your load concentrate on building good study skills and taking core classes one at a time.

good luck.

Call your local colleges and find out what the minimum requirement is for acceptance. If I were you, I would probably retake the A&P over and try to get an A. With a 2.8, it is not impossible to get accepted into a program, but if you can raise a little more, you probably would have a higher chance. You wont know if you dont ask.

Good luck to you, I hope you get a chance to become a nurse.

The most important thing to do is to do a little research on what the schools in you area require. Look at public university, CC, and private. Some places have wait lists, and as long as you have the minimums you have an equal chance as people with a 4.0. Some private schools might be easier to get into, and then you have to see if you can afford it. Other schools essentially throw your application away if you don't have at least a 3.5 and they may even average your retake scores if they allow them. You do still have a chance, you just may have a more limited choice of schools or may have to move if you're able. Good luck!

What about starting at ground zero with an lpn program that doesn't have prerequisites? Or am I wrong and they have prereq's too?
