PLEASE HELP ME>> QUESTION REGARDING BAD GRADES and nursing school.

Although I can't help you with your last question, I think that I may have a few pointers that might be of help.

How many more pre-reqs do you have to do? Is one of them a math? A chemistry? Microbiology? If you do a wonderful job in those classes, this will help your science average, and most programs look at how well you did with the sciences. Just put yourself all out in those classes, study VERY hard, and get a tutor if necessary (most community colleges have tutors for those areas). Get all the help you can get and get excellent grades in all of these classes.

One of the great things that you are doing that can help you, you are already working in a hospital. If you weren't working in the hospital, I would suggest that you volunteer at a hospital; however, since you are already working then you are one step ahead of the game. When it comes time to send in the application, get one of your supervisors to write a letter on his/her behalf explaining what you did, what a great employee you were to have around, and emphasizing your strong points. Maybe she can add a few lines on how she feels that you'd make an excellent nurse.

Well, here are my pointers so far. I wouldn't let the previous bad luck in class hold you back, but work put really put yourself into your work next time. Show 'em what you got and emphasize your STRONG points.

Also, if you have an advisor, check with him or her to see if you really need to retake those classes. Sometimes it might count against you (repeating a class more than once). I don't know if this would be the prudent thing to do because you didn't FAIL the class. Your advisor may say that it's a waste of valuable time and money, and talk with him/her and see if they'll give you any indication whether this will hold you back or not.

"I'm willing to get good grades..." Umm........not to be mean, but it sounds like your low grades were due to not trying your best? If yes, then going all out from here on out will help you. If you just worded it wrong and you DID try your best, then how you present on your application and at your interview will make a difference too. A C- isn't great but it's not horrible. I did really well in anatomy, got a C in physio, and da** near flunked micro, but when I explained why it happened, it helped. (I'm one of those who has trouble understanding something that cannot be seen, so micro was really hard for me.)

I know in my area that the grades do matter. In Oregon all 8 of the local community colleges are working with the University to all have the same enterance requirments, with one application going out to all the schools. And A&P grades is a big one. I talked to the nursing programing director at my school, she said that your application will not even be considered unless you have an A in A&P1. Last year I ended up with C's in my A&P series, so I will be retaking them again this year and I will be getting the A.

Please don't mistake this post as deragatory, because it is certainly not intended as such. It appears from the way that you worded your post that English might not be your first language, as certain phrasings you used are indicative of translation from another language. If that IS the case, you might want to consider brushing up on English grammar and spellings. A&P is hard enough. . .I couldn't imagine taking it without a clear understanding of the English language.

If that is NOT the case, your best bet is to just go to the DON at the school in which you're enrolled and ask. The worst they can tell you is, "Yeah, you really need to retake the class for a better grade," right?

hello everyone. I'm pre-nursing student who lives in CT. I have major questions that i would like to ask and it is very important for me.
I'm willing to be a nurse so badly.Right now, I have a great job in the hospital and i'm working as CNA. I'm taking classes in community college for nursing programs(pre-req).Next september, i want to get into programs and the application starts in between nov-feb. However, I have several bad grades that holds me up. I took biology and Anatomy&physiology last year, but i got C- for both grades and i'm trying to retake the class this coming up fall 2006. I also have C in my english class, however, i pulled up the grades into B. Do you think if i applied to the nursing programs, would they'll still accept my grades? I'm willing to get good grades on fall semester. I'm so worry that they might not even look at my application. please help me.. I need an advice. I'm almost finish with my pre-req. but those are the only things holds me up.
And one more thing... can someone please tell me the list of nursing programs in CT or NY? just community college...

I am also from Connecticut.

I started out at Housatonic community college. I did poorly when I took Anatomy and Physiology 1&2. I got a W the first time and the second time I got a C. Althoug English is not my first language, I never use that as an excuse of my low performances. I recently retook both classes at a private college and made a A- A&P 1 and a B+ for A&P 2 (was 1 point away from an A-). My success was due to a changed in my study habits. I taped the lectures, listened to the them within 48 hours, rewrote my notes and went to tutoring 4 times. I also tried to understand the materials rather than memorize. I will start nursing in the fall and I am so excited.

alot of schools around where I live take the highest gpa first and they want you to have a gpa of 3.2 or higher.
