Hi All,

**** I start nursing school in two weeks and wanted to know if anyone had suggestions on good school planners or calendars to put my assignments, readings, projects, tests, etc in. Are there any Iphone apps which are helpful or is a physical planner book better?? Any links or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks! :clown:

Miki, have you figured out what you're going to do with all the boxes in your UnCalendar? I wanted something with a ton of space and I got

It haha, but I'm not sure how to divide it up, yet.

So I don't look like a crazy person to everyone else, this is what an UnCalendar looks like. It's undated and has a lot of different areas to creatively divide up your time and goals and stuff.

I still have a few empty boxes, but this is what I worked out during the summer.

On the left:

The small blue lined box is current week's tests and quizzes.

The unlined box under it is next week's tests and quizzes.

The big lined box is assignments, readings, homework, etc. I highlight them as they get done and what I don't get to gets transferred to next week.

The big empty box is random for whatever my needs are that week. One week was my schedule, another was bills.

On the right page:

The lined box at top is general todos. Make this appointment, get that done, buy this or that.

For the week, I write the hour on the lines to make a visual calendar. Class times, appointments, work all go here.

I'll attach a pic later after I get off.

I use a big dry-erase wall calendar from staples.

its double sided, one for 120 days (4 months) and another for 90 days (3 months.) I use this calendar religiously for everything I need in life as a nursing student and as a normal NYC resident. It projects what my next few months will be like at just a glance without having to flip through pages. I prefer to use the 90 day side because its approx the length of a whole semester, and has space on the bottom for a condensed extra month and notes. It helps to transition the next semester.

If it wasnt for this calendar, my mind would have indeed been scrambled from trying to get everything organized and fretting about whether or not Ive forgotten something. It's placed on the wall between my computer and TV so It is constantly in my line of vision. Keep notes on the corner for deadlines of scholarships and internship deadlines that are beyond the 4 month span of the calendar so I can put it in when the time comes.

Even during days when school is not in session, I like to mark such days as "Studying" and cross them out with a big red marker so I know not to plan anything on those days.

p.s.

I also have a bulletin board a few feet from it hanging on the same wall. papers such as my physical forms, and notices from school are placed there until I dont need them anymore.

To the people that use the 'uncalendar' do you fill it out completely or do you go week by week filling it as needed?

In the past I went to a University that gave you a planner at the beginning of each year. You could pick it up with your student card for free....it was always the best one....not too big, not to small, plenty of room to write, lightweight and easy. I am no longer at that school so I'm in search of a new one.

If I'm not in school, I don't use a planner at all...I just use my phone calendar. I'm thinking that if I can at least use outlook, I'll be pretty on task. I'm going to start looking for the right planner to use myself for January when I start my program.

Google Calendar -- I set things up to give me reminders (pop-ups on my phone, emails, daily agendas, etc.) based on how much time I need to do the task. Need an evaluation turned in for clinical day on Thursday? I'll get an email reminder on Tuesday and Wednesday. Exam coming up on Tuesday? I'll get a reminder a week ahead. Presentation due in four weeks? I'll get a reminder three weeks out, two weeks out, one week out, and two days out.

I was on a search for a large daily planner this fall. I found this, but I have it in a different color. LOTS of space to write down assignments and being able to put down more tests in one day.

I also use a personal notebook from five star. I put my to do lists on it. If I don't finish something I carry it over to the next day. Less likely I'll forget something. I rely more on the to do list than anything. I had it in purple :).

Any more suggestions?

I switched to an Erin Condren Life planner. :)

I used a physical planner that had that long strip for each day, so an entire week fit in an open page. I put what reading needed to be done by which date (ie if talking about L&D on thursday, I put the readings on thursday). I put what papers were due, tests, etc.

worked really well for me, I need things in front of me
