Plan to become nurse practitioner any advice

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I'm 19 thinking about nursing to be NP not RN

so any posts about this any type of advice

I'm interested in spending the majority of career being a NP not really interested in RN

is that okay?

I'm not a fan of the bedside nurisng of RN but I like the idea of what of I've heard of NP

is that okay or should I not consider this as a career because I don't want to a Rn or do bedside nursing

basically is okay to choose NP without liking the idea of RN

Specializes in Tele/PCU/ICU/Stepdown/HH Case Management.

a nurse practitioner is a registered nurse!

I don't want to a Rn or do bedside nursing

basically is okay to choose NP without liking the idea of RN

I believe that would be difficult, a NP is an RN with advanced training and responsibilities for

the patients. What interested you in the NP and what type of work do you see yourself

doing?

If you cant stand bedside nursing how will u pass nursing school to obtain RN? (core requirement for NP)

I suggest to look into PA school which will not require bed side nursing but land you in a similar career

You want to be an NP without having any RN experience correct? What will employers think?

Maybe try the PA route, that sounds perfect for what you are looking for, and you don't have to go through nursing school for 2 - 3 years.

become a doctor??

NP is RN with years of experience and many advance training

"basically is okay to choose NP without liking the idea of RN "

Basically, no.

Thanks for posting. Hopefully you will take some time to re-evaluate your wishes/desires/career goals after reading these posts.

Your current career goal (as stated) is about as realistic as saying that you want to be a doctor without fulfilling the requisite internship and residency requirements. Can't be done.

That's point #1. Point #2 is: why on earth would you want to be an advanced practitioner in a profession in which you have no desire to practice?

nurse practitioner might be a registered nurse but they don't have the same duties

I love the idea of PA but they don't have the option to work independently like NP

this makes me lean towards NP rather than PA

also doctors put up with residency knowing one day they won't have to do that anymore

what's wrong with that?

NP has differences if duties to a RN

I don't get why that is so wrong if I'm more interested in NP then RN

as far what I think the duties are going to be I'm assuming similar to a PA but with with the ability to practice on their own'

I've read so many posts about people not liking being a RN so yeah

maybe my perception of a NP is inaccurate so why doesn't someone explain to me in detail what a NP does

yes they do. treating patient. NP just practice more advanced care and has broader scope of practice.
