Anyone else think Plan B will get GROSSLY out of hand? I think alot of 18 years old will be running to walmart every sunday nite!
Also, cant it hurt a woman' s body if she takes Plan b too many times?

I don't think Plan B should be used as a primary means of birth control...and as hard as it may be to believe, threre are women out there who do. We used to have a lady who came to the ER at least a couple of times a year seeking emergency contraception.
THANK YOU!!!
(Now granted, I'm all for using protection but condoms do break. )
In that case, Plan B is a good choice. It would be used as an emergency measure, not as a primary measure.

I doubt that women will be at Wal-Mart every weekend to buy planb. With how expensive the medication is and the side effects from it, I doubt any woman would make this her primary form of birth control. I'm happy it's over the counter. When an oppsies occur women need to have an option. PlanB will probably prevent a lot of abortions in the long run.

One estimate by the Guttmacher institute was 51000 abortions per year would be avoided......

cotjockey and TazziRN: Do you think using emergency contraception twice a year indicates that person is using it as primary BC and it is too much?
What would be your upper limit for emergency contraception? In a calendar year or a floating 12 month period? :lol_hitti
If a woman needs to use Plan B as emergency contraception twice a year because of a broken condom then she needs to make sure her partner uses a different brand, or she needs to get herself on another form of birth control. Emergency contraception should be used as just that.....emergency. Unless she has the great misfortune of being an assault victim more than once (many apologies to those who have been victims, I'm not trying to be cruel), most women should have few occasions to use emergency contraception.

Mixed feelings. I think it needs to be available to rape victims, and I think that girls who unintentionally get pregnant should have access to it also, but I'm afraid that it will be used as a method of birth control.
I agree. There will be some people using Plan B as birth control, and not as a back-up emergency for birth control.

I am so thankful to see something like this on the market!
I am pro-choice, but anything to help reduce abortions, is a fantastic thing!
:balloons: for Plan B
We used to have a lady who came to the ER at least a couple of times a year seeking emergency contraception.
We have one of those too.
OK, so what if someone comes in a couple times of year seeking emergency contraception? Do you know her background? The whole situation? Maybe, maybe not.
Even so, it's better for her to go on to have an abortion possibly or have a child she doesn't want? Or to use something like Plan B to prevent a pregnancy to begin with!
I'm thankful for emergency contraception. I knew a girl in high school who had had 2 abortions. I'm pro-choice but who wants to see anyone have to go through an abortion? I would rather she have had OTC access to something like Plan B than to keep getting pregnant and having abortions. Her mom or an older friend could have gotten Plan B for her if she was under age.
There are women who will use something like this all the time, that is their choice, not mine. People make a lot of choices that I wouldn't make for myself. I can live with it.
That is all I'm going to say about it
The one i'm refering to, w/o giving too much detail, said that the shots made her sick, she was allergic to condoms, you name a BC, she had an excuse/reason not to use it. Asked if she were on any BC, she said no. Never could understand why she supposedly couldn't take BC pills, yet could stand this high dose pill.
The only reason given for NOT using Plan B as a regular BC method on the manufacturer's site is that it is not as effective as low-dose BC pills would be, so pregnancy risk increases. However, it will not harm an implanted zygote nor the subsequent baby.
What I am picking up from some on this thread is judgemental and moralizing, not patient safety concerns, without facts to back it up.

Yes women should be able to enjoy themselves, but women should also be responsible enough to know when pregnancy is possible and (if not willing to care for a child) say no/protect themselves. Yes condoms can break, but that's why we have the pill, IUDs, and tons of other BC options. I too know ppl who use Plan B or abortion as their form of birth control, and I hate that. Why can't we say "enjoy sex, but enjoy it responsibly" and leave it at that? My mom always told me that if I was mature enough to have sex, I was mature enough to talk about birth control. How ridiculous that the argument for unprotected sex is that "women should be able to enjoy themselves." And we aren't even getting into the risks of STDs......

In my opinion it is an abortion pill. But I believe that life begins at fertilization. I am all for availability of BC that prevents fertilization. I can't believe insurance doesn't cover BC pills......is that common? I've never had to buy them.
