Who traditionally pins the students at the pinning ceremony?
What are some of the coolest things you've seen done at a pinning ceremony?

Fo our CNA pinning it was our clinical instructors. It was a great ceremony. One of my classmates husbands was in Iraq and without her knowing surprised her with his homecoming at the pinning. He was able to come back a day earlier than planned. The entire room just burst ito tears it was so awesome!

For my Pinning Ceremony on 5/19/06, we(students) were told to choose someone who has played an important role in helping us achieve & earn our nursing degree. A majority of the students picked relatives(spouses, parents, etc). Some picked relatives who are also nurses & about 2 or 3 picked an instructor. I personally wanted to pick my daughter because she's been my rock throughout the past 5 years that I've been a single parent to her & struggled to complete nursing school. But she is only 9 so I had to choose someone else.

I am curious as to why they would not let your daughter do it? That just doesn't seem right to me.
Lori--
The reason my instructors told us we could not pick someone younger than
12 is because, in the past Pinning ceremonies, they have had problems with young children being the "Pinner" and the child getting nervous/stage fright & couldn't(or wouldn't) complete the pinning. Therefore the instructors felt that at 12, children would be mature-enough to handle the task of being a "Pinner".

my boyfriend and i live together and he has endured the wrath and will be pinning me. i pinned my mom when she graduated, (i was 12). i would have chose her, but aaron really has put the time in, so to speak.
anyhoo, i'm doing closing remarks at the ceremony and would like to say something more than, 'please join us for cake.' any ideas? quotes maybe?

Really a bummer if you ask me. I can totally understand you wanting your daughter to pin you, and I think it would have been equally as special for her too.
In any case, congrats on making it through!!!

The DON of my LPN school did the Pinning 19 years ago. Said to me: "I TOLD you I would make you a nurse if it killed me!"
For my RN, we got to choose one of the attending instructors. BTW....my LPN DON was instrumental in getting me to attend the University I graduated from. She is still alive and well, too.

Our instructors pinned us too. We also had a blessing of hands, which was done by one of the Nuns at our school. She anointed our hands & said a prayer. It was pretty special.
