Pima CC NS students.. how long you actually waited??

Published

Hello,

I'm from Tucson AZ, and applied to the pima CC nursing program after taking BIO 202 in summer 2009. They gave me 2012 spring to start. That's like 2.5 years wait. well 2 more yrs to go( i'm in my 30s now:uhoh21:). I feel like this wait is tooooo loooooong. Are thre any nursing students here from Pima CC ? how long you guys had to wait after finishing BIO 202? Do they give any priority to those who have good grades for BIO 201 & 202? I'm almost done with my co -reqs too and this waiting period s**ks. Please give me your input , so that at least I can get an idea about the wait. thanks in advance.:cry::crying2::crying2:

I am so thankful my school doesn't do the whole waiting list thing!

I go to Pima, applied after BIO 202 in December of 2007 and started in Fall of 2008 when they told me I wouldn't start til Fall of 2011. Check your email often - that's where they send you the option to start earlier. I don't know anyone that had to wait more than one year. :) Don't let it get you down - you'll get there!! I'll be done before I was supposed to even start!

Thank you so much for replying. Today only I saw that you guys have replied to my thread. ( didn't get any email notice about replies). Sorry about that. and thank you again for spending your time to reply. Like you said rnay312, it will be checking my email daily :0). You must be a very busy nursing student now. All the very best to you. If you have time can you please please tell me how is the program? Are instructors good? I know this is a silly question, but can you please tell me what color are the uniforms? :D:):)

Good luck to you....and thanks again.

You're welcome for the reply. It is very busy, but you have to find time for yourself or you'll go crazy. The program itself is very good, but nursing tests are different than others. They're all multiple choice, but choose the "most" right answer. You don't necessarily get tested on the material you learn, but you learn the material, and get tested on how you would apply it in real life situations. Clinicals have been great. Every instructor I've had has been supportive and encouraging. They want you to do well. The uniforms are a hideously ugly green that I cannot wait to never wear again. :) It is a lot of study time, but the instructors are pretty good about summing the material up in the power points. And we just got our NCLEX pass rates from 2009, Pima had the highest passing rate in the entire state. (96.7%, I think?) I really do think it's the best program in the state - plus almost every nurse I've ever spoken to has said that nurses from Pima are more prepared, hands-on, and have better bedside manner than nurses that went to UA.

You will do great! Keep us posted on when you get that email. I remember getting it and completely freaking out, jumping up and down, so excited that I was finally going to start. And here I am, almost done. It goes by sooooo fast!! If you have any other questions let me know!

rnay312,

Thank you so much for spending your time to reply. thanks for the kind advice and information. I actually google imaged the pima nursing students just to see what color the uniforms are( few weeks ago). I found just one picture of them wearing that green uniform. Now that you verified it. :D

Good to know the passing rate too because I couldn't find it any where. and now you are almost done, you must be very happy and I'm so happy for you too. GOOD LUCK with the NCLEX exam in the future.

I'm sure I will freak out when I see the email and have sleep less nights not until I start but untill I finish the program.:lol2::lol2::lol2:

best wishes from me.

Don't be too anxious about the wait... I actually posted something very similar right after I finished my pre reqs. I applied in Jan of 09 and starting in August 2010!!! Im so excited, I have orientation on the 26th of march. The email WILL come, and I missed it because I wasn't checking regularly since I wasn't attending classes at the time...only missed it by a couple of days, but I could have already been a nursing student :( Not trying to threadjack but... :) I have looked all over the internet and I am trying to find something about the orientation, handbook, lectures...basically anything I can get my hands on and it has been almost nil- rnay do you have any info? I would be very grateful!

Jazzysmama, I'm assuming you're starting the Pima program, too? If you want I can email you the syllabus from first semester, I still have it saved on my computer. I have the lectures, too, though I don't know if they've changed at all, so I don't know if it'd be a good idea to study them because nursing is always changing. I don't know if you can send private messages on here, but if you can, shoot me one with your email and I'll send it to you. AniraP, I can send it to you too if you want.

Let me know!

I applied May of 09. I have gotten "the email" asking if I am interested in starting early. I replied yes and will find out by March 1st if there is a seat for me for the Fall of 2010! I'm very excited! :lol2:

Rnay

Thank you so much rnay for the syllabus and lectures, it is so awesome to see what it is going to be like in a couple of months :)
