PHSC 2015 Nursing Hopefuls

Published

Hey everyone!

I found one topic on this, but it wasn't very active, so I hope this one becomes a little more successful. My name is Jennifer, and I am applying for the January 2015 Nursing Program at PHSC. My home campus is Porter at Wiregrass Ranch. Are there any other 2015 hopefuls? I'd like to get to know you all! I am taking my TEAS next Tuesday and am so nervous. This will be my first time taking the TEAS. Have any of you taken it? How was it?

Any tips? I have finished all me pre-reqs and finished with a 3.6. Not too bad, wish I would have got higher! Hope I get in! Good luck to all you ladies!

Thanks!

I heard 48?? Also yeah I'm sure that's the only way they could rank us. It even says on the website that's how they do the selection. They don't say the formula. But for more or less you can make out what it is.

I voiced my concerns about the selection process due to the fact that I know several people who should have been accepted into the RN program based on their composite scores, but were not. My neighbor is one of them. His score was just shy of 85 yet he was only chosen as an alternate, while a girl from one of his classes was offered a seat and her score was lower than his (81.25). Since he thought it might be an error, he decided to go in and speak with someone regarding the selection process and was apparently told that they "take the student's performance at PHSC into consideration, as well as overall academic achievement at PHSC & other institutions (if applicable)". The only thing he could determine from that was that while his pre-req GPA was good, his overall GPA was lower than hers, therefore she got the spot. If it was based exclusively on the 3 things mentioned online then it should have been the other way around. This just makes me nervous because I'm in a similar situation as him. My pre-req GPA is good, but overall is only a 3.38...didn't really apply myself way back when I attended college the first time almost 20 years ago. Just hoping that's not a contributing factor.

Wow hpfl2015 definitely concerns me a little bit too.

Wow hpfl2015! That's scarey!

I guess we'll know if some us make and don't make it but composite is better then the other it may have been overall gpa

Deadline day! Time to start stalking the mailman soon.

I will be on vacation for two weeks in July, so it will be torture if the letters don't come before then. Good luck everyone!

Now that the deadline is here (months after stalking this page) I felt I should join the group! My Score is 77 for the Transition program. I am not very confident that I will get in but I am trying to keep positive. I was accepted into SPC's transition last year but turned it down so I could complete my bachelors in a related field. Hopefully turning that down wasn't a mistake!!

I am super nervous now!!! I hope we all get in and I hope it doesn't take too long for them to meet and send letters out!

Hi future Mrs rn :-) I am transition too with a composite of 75 so don't worry I think we are all pretty close to each other so maybe we will all get in ;-)

I'm starting to believe they weigh other factors other than the TEAS & pre req gpa. I spoke to 2 faculty members from the college and both said they look at the student's performance at Phsc. Also in the past thread or 2 I believe there was also another student with a high score who didn't get in and someone with a lower score did. Who knows how the selection is made. What's most important is to not give up, and hopefully everyone gets in!!

Does anyone now how many applicants there are?

I finally took the TEAS today. I got a 69 :( & my pre req gpa is a 3.7. Also, not a Pasco resident. I followed the formula a few pages back for the composite score, and if I did it right, that's only a 76. Much lower than everyone else's. Feeling worried about my chances, but I went ahead and applied to Porter, because I won't know unless I try. Who else is for Porter campus? I am done with all my co reqs as well, so if I get in I would only have to take the nursing courses.
