Hey everyone!
I found one topic on this, but it wasn't very active, so I hope this one becomes a little more successful. My name is Jennifer, and I am applying for the January 2015 Nursing Program at PHSC. My home campus is Porter at Wiregrass Ranch. Are there any other 2015 hopefuls? I'd like to get to know you all! I am taking my TEAS next Tuesday and am so nervous. This will be my first time taking the TEAS. Have any of you taken it? How was it?
Any tips? I have finished all me pre-reqs and finished with a 3.6. Not too bad, wish I would have got higher! Hope I get in! Good luck to all you ladies!
Thanks!
The first week has been fun but stressful for our RN peeps and PN brethren. We have great people in each so that helps.
My advice to everyone would be to take the TEAS early enough so you can retake if you need or want to. There isn't enough time to improve your GPA but you can raise your TEAS.
Make sure you have the ATI study book and practice. The earth science gote because it was tears and years ago when I studied it last. The practice tests in the back are great. Also be sure to sign up for the TEAS study group at the TLC. They can explain and help you focus on where practice more.
Yeah, one of the TLC employees travels from campus to campus holding a TEAS study group within the TLC. The TLC is the tutoring portion that is normally next or within the libraries (depends what campus you are on). If you call the TLC, Library, or the guidance office some one should be able to tell you when and where the next one will be. The best part is, it's free for us students.
I am thinking Nicole Miller was the instructor for it. Her info is [email protected] 352-797-5174
Feel free to carry on with this thread or y'all can start a new thread for the Fall Hopefuls. Here is the information again on how they figure out the acceptance scores for the RN program. Much of this was word of mouth to fellow classmates. The more y'all can find to join the discussions the better idea you will have on what your base line score for acceptance may be.
RN composite scoring formula:
The first steps is to take your pre-req GPA and multiply by 25 then multiply that by .45.
The second step is to divide your TEAS by 2.
The third step is to add 5 points if you are a Pasco or Hernando resident.
Add your scores and that is your composite.
Example:
GPA 4.0*25=100*.45=45
TEAS 80/2=40
Resident +5
45+40+5= would have an entrance score of 90 for the program
The PN went simply off the TEAS score.
Hi,
I just came across this thread and was wondering if someone could shed some light for me. I'm new to the Tampa area and have a B.S. in Health Science. I still need to take the computer course that is required but does anyone know if it's possible to waive the requirement since I already have a degree? Also, is anyone applying for the April 1st 2015 application round that's not a resident? I'm interested to know if people actually get in who are non-residents. I'm an out of state resident BTW....
Thanks!

Hi morganw1,
With PHSC the chances of getting the Micro Apps class waved will be slim but you can meet with a counselor and see if any of your previous classes might cover it. If all else fails you can take it on-line; however, the class is very simple either way you choose. They may wave that class until your first semester though.
The acceptance truly depends on your pre-req GPA and TEAS score. Having residency in Pasco or Hernando just gave you an additional 5 points. If you follow the formula above, it will show you what your acceptance score would be. I would say from this semesters experience that anyone with a 81 or higher is sure to get a seat. We did have plenty with the score of 80.00 and up make it in for the Spring term.
Since the pre-reqs are already set in stone the best way to raise your odds would be to re-test at the TEAS until you are comfortable with your score. I believe you can take it three times a year and they have to be a month apart.

Hey everyone! Hope all you Spring applicants are enjoying your first week! I'll be applying to the Fall 2015 program! My teas score was an 80% and I currently have a 4.0 for my pre req GPA. Also, I live in Pasco. Any other Fall hopefuls?
