PHSC 2015 Nursing Hopefuls

Published

Hey everyone!

I found one topic on this, but it wasn't very active, so I hope this one becomes a little more successful. My name is Jennifer, and I am applying for the January 2015 Nursing Program at PHSC. My home campus is Porter at Wiregrass Ranch. Are there any other 2015 hopefuls? I'd like to get to know you all! I am taking my TEAS next Tuesday and am so nervous. This will be my first time taking the TEAS. Have any of you taken it? How was it?

Any tips? I have finished all me pre-reqs and finished with a 3.6. Not too bad, wish I would have got higher! Hope I get in! Good luck to all you ladies!

Thanks!

Chris I totally agree and my adviser showed me what the board looks at and its all your history at the school. They only consider certain numbers but they SEE everything. I have been saying the same thing if it was ONLY numbers a computer system could easily and quickly figure it out. I honest just want to know which avenue i will be taking and its hard to have such a big determinant postponed.. Happy yo have this site though to see everyone else in the same boat!

I wish we could submit personal statements. I agree with you that they look at your whole academic history. I had a rough stint at UCF a few years ago, even though I have a 4.0 prerequisite, my overall is stuck around a 3.2 because I have around 5? Fs

We are one day closer, even though we don't know that exact day yet! Hang in there everyone, we will find out soon. :)

Ya my school history shows 4 Fs from 2010 and when i started again in 2013 i did grade forgiveness an re took two of the classes. My overall GPA is now a 3.7.. so im hoping they see the time gap and how much better and more focused i am now.. idk my Teas was pretty bad too so im nervous about that.. i feel pretty confident when i comes to my ability to learn and do well but that test killed me for some reason!

Well my history could look either really terrible or beneficial... I started off college on the wrong foot. I audited and withdrew a bunch of classes, and then one semester I failed two because I stopped going (I received zero credits that semester). I ended up going into financial aid suspension because my GPA dropped below a 2.0 and my completion ratio was too low. I brought my GPA back up to a 2.81 [2.85 prerequisite], and my completion ratio is back up.

And for one of the corequisites, Lifespan Development, I audited that during the bad days, then I re-took it when I was building my completion ratio back up... The [online] teacher was absolutely horrible and took as long as a month to respond to messages. I ended up getting a D in the class for my second attempt. I do take some of the blame for my low grade, but the teacher certainly didn't help. and I had a 93% quiz and 91% exam average. I am, however, currently taking the class as a transient student at HCC, but that doesn't show on my records until the credit transfers. SO I'm scared about this . . .

I started DE in 2011. I started actual college in 2012. I screwed up my first year, but I'd say I've definitely come a long way. I just wish I didn't take my prerequisites when I was a screw up!! /:

Mamaberry do you have a stats list from your forum of the people who got in for fall?

Good ^^^ question!!!

Yes that would be nice. It would really be nice if everyone that applied for the RN and/or LPN MUST post their GPA and TEAS score so that we would all know where we stand. I worry whether I will get in the RN program. Applied for LPN as a backup just in case I didn't make it into the RN program, but I really don't want to go through the LPN then Bridge. I'm finishing up my co-req's now. Taking microbiology lecture and lab with Spaziani right now. After that I only have english comp. and Lifespan. I'll do those online. This waiting can be really stressful but I tell myself that I did the best I could...well I could have studied more for the TEAS, but it is what it is and there's nothing I can do about it now.

And as for knowing all of the stats of the people that applied and got in last Spring or Fall, it's hard to go by JUST that because it also depends on how many people applied. Let's just hope and pray there weren't a lot of applicants. I've seen people that have applied with the same scores/rank as me and maybe even a little better and were denied. I've also seen them get in with my scores/rank. It is nice to try and make ourselves feel better by looking at the scores of people that got in that have the same scores as us, but I've found that it can also be discouraging seeing people who applied with the same scores get repeatedly denied. I try to not go on here too much as to not freak myself out about getting in, but I do it anyway. Vicious circle. Lol.

Shelby :)

So hopefully we ALL get accepted into the nursing program, but there's always that chance that something might go wrong. Does anyone have a backup plan? Are there any other schools in the Tampa Bay area with a nationally accredited nursing program?

With national accreditation in mind, I highly advise reading this article:
