Hey everyone!
I found one topic on this, but it wasn't very active, so I hope this one becomes a little more successful. My name is Jennifer, and I am applying for the January 2015 Nursing Program at PHSC. My home campus is Porter at Wiregrass Ranch. Are there any other 2015 hopefuls? I'd like to get to know you all! I am taking my TEAS next Tuesday and am so nervous. This will be my first time taking the TEAS. Have any of you taken it? How was it?
Any tips? I have finished all me pre-reqs and finished with a 3.6. Not too bad, wish I would have got higher! Hope I get in! Good luck to all you ladies!
Thanks!
for everyone that is looking to start getting some of the nursing stuff now, like me so its not so much money at once. I found that Uniforms - Nursing Scrubs, Nursing Uniforms & Medical Scrubs - allheart has a really good selection of shoes.
Also i just went to the docters and i asked he about stethoscopes, her advice was to go to the USF health book store they have tons of stethoscopes and you can try them on to see what works best for you. She did tell me to get a shorter tube, it helps you hear better vs a longer tube. But once you pick you field to reassess i.e. pedis might have a longer tube since kids tend to move but if you are working in a field with mostly adults shorter ones work better since adults tend not to move and run around.
Oh and for the shots if download that sheet form the other post you will see you need like 4 or 5 shots/test. check with your insurance even as an adult i am covered for ALL OF THEM!!!! i know some students from the fall class that didnt check and spent A LOT of money getting the shots. Most range between $40-80 each! plus the cost of the exam.
Hope that helps :/ i know i didn't want to have to rush around like a chicken with my head cut off come end of nov/dec (not the best time of year with all the holidays) WHEN i get in (always got to think positive)
I'm the type of person that is always considering options and possibilities. Not necessarily making exact plans but I like to weigh all the options and plan what I can accordingly to improve my odds of getting what I want. Seriously, I'm not a control freak though lol.
I was curious if anyone has given thought to a specialty after graduating from PHSC or if anyone has given thought to where they would like to get their BSN from or if you plan on going even further.
I would love to get into UF's BSN program... Go Gators! Heck, I was born in their teaching college while my parents attended UF. I was also checking out USF as well. They have a similar on-line option like PHSCs. Part of the reason I look at these is to see what electives or pre-reqs they prefer.
While I want to spend a good amount of time attempting to master each area, I am leaning towards Oncology because of my wife. After talking to some family and friends which are nurses, they have all leaned towards the ICU environment. Ultimately some where down the road, I would love to become a traveling murse. With my dreams of becoming a traveling murse, I believe I would be better suited working in the different areas rather than focusing on one specific field.
I posted this on the FB page as well... Pasco Hernando State College 2015 Spring Nursing Students
