PHSC 2015 Nursing Hopefuls

Published

Hey everyone!

I found one topic on this, but it wasn't very active, so I hope this one becomes a little more successful. My name is Jennifer, and I am applying for the January 2015 Nursing Program at PHSC. My home campus is Porter at Wiregrass Ranch. Are there any other 2015 hopefuls? I'd like to get to know you all! I am taking my TEAS next Tuesday and am so nervous. This will be my first time taking the TEAS. Have any of you taken it? How was it?

Any tips? I have finished all me pre-reqs and finished with a 3.6. Not too bad, wish I would have got higher! Hope I get in! Good luck to all you ladies!

Thanks!

Yeah, I called Connie twice and left her a voice mail. She doesn't reply. I tried calling around and seeing if I could get some questions answer, but all they do is redirect me to her. I'm sorry you're having such a rough time with this. I'd be completely furious if I was you and didn't get in. Did you apply for LPN or just RN/generic?

Just rn generic since I was under the assumption that I would get in without a problem.

Corey, did you check you junk or spam folders of the email that you provided? I don't see why you wouldn't have gotten in!

Last semester is seemed more oragnIzed cause they sent out all the letters (acceptance, alternates and denials) at the same time. We all received ours on or around the same day...

It is weird, though...I received my LPN acceptance and than almost 4 days later got my RN acceptance. Why not just send them both at the same time?

Did your teas score increase more since you took it multiple times? I have taken it a few times and it just barely increased :( I do feel like it was a lot of the same questions. Congrats on being accepted and I do agree they should have sent everything at once!

Corey, if you didn't get in with that score then their is def something shady with how they choose their students!!!

We should wait until Monday before assuming shady things are happening. It wouldn't be a bad idea to get a few people to talk to the dean and ask for complete transparency when it comes to the selection.

I agree with everyone else about how disorganized this is. And if there are still people that are suppose to get acceptance letters, then that is just crazy they don't know yet! That will not give them time to get everything together. If Corey didn't get in I have no hope. Also, if they look at more than pre req gpa and teas, then they should state that.

I completely agree. I'm being extremely pessimistic and there's no reason for it. Obviously everything is a little disorganized so jumping to conclusions now would just be silly. It's a little odd that there are still people that don't know either way, but until everyone gets a denial letter, we should all hope for the best.

I'll have to check the Dean of Nursing's office hours and see if I can get an appointment to talk to them. Even if I did get in (which I have to remind my negative self, is most likely the case) I really need someone to understand how much emotional strain this disorganization has put on the students.

Yes, what really boggles my mind is the idea that accepted students could just be sitting around and waiting. Maybe they only sent emails to the Porter students since it seemed everyone that got an email was accepted there (along with other campuses). Prehaps other campuses will get a letter and a different deadline. No one knows unfortunately.

I was talking with a friend last night about what they could be looking for other than GPA and TEAS and it hit me that I was homeschooled and thus have a GED instead of a High School Diploma, seems like a long shot that it would matter even the tiniest bit, but you never know.

As for TEAS scores, I found from working at the TLC that scores really don't differ that much with each attempt. The test looks for your ability to process information and apply it and unfortunately that doesn't improve very easily. Though, the best subject to study to increase your score is math since there's no tricky questions like in the science and reading and every hour improves your score more than studying english.

Just throwing that out there for everyone.

I truly believe that extending the deadline and the number of applications has made this process a bit unorganized. I received a packet for east campus yesterday and i live NOWHERE near east campus. I called and they had my zip code wrong. It was corrected but after i had a small heart attack. Please remember that they are only people.

Yeah, you're right that they are only human and mistakes may have been made. It just really sucks because this is peoples lives they are handling.

As far as Monday goes, I have a feeling they're going to extend the due date for the response form for those who were accepted. They should do that if they're going to be giving out more acceptance letters at least.

Also Corey, try not to worry, I think you of all people will be fine. As I said earlier, if this is still an issue after Monday, we all need to pay the dean a visit.

also, they might be having issues with the process because it is the first year they have two separate applications(Isn't that right?, you never had to apply for west and east?), now that it is west/east AND porter as a separate application. They might be doing this delay because there are people who applied to both porter and west/east and accepted porter. This could cause a lot of 'shifting' with the list of people at west campus.

Just a thought, not sure if its true.

It took me awhile to actually improve my TeAS. i just studied really hard what I didn't know which was science and eventually I improved. Its not easy but if you put time in it is possible. I took the TeAs after I got my highest score and actually scored lower...so Corey is right on the money.

Having a GED vs high school diploma should not play a factor on deciding whether or not you will get in. I have my GED only and am going into the 3rd semester of the program right now. They are supposed to use your pre-req GPA + TEAS+ pasco residency in determining entrance....highest score gets in.

I really, really, really, REALLY think there is some mistake - either they didnt send you your acceptance by mistake, or maybe it went into your spam folder, or they typed in your email wrong. There is NO WAY you didnt get in.

Please go in person monday morning and find out what is going on - do not take no for an answer.

Best wishes :)

edited to add - this is the first year they are emailing acceptance/denial letters....obviously they have some kinks.
