I was not a nursing student there, but have had the benefit of taking some of their continuing education courses. If the RN program is as through and as good as their continuing ed, then, I would say to fight like hell to get in there.

I believe that students have to sit for the NLN (National League of Nursing) pre-entrance exam. They sell books for that at Amazon.com. Not sure of how difficult it is, but, worth a shot. If I ever did change my mind about becoming an RN, I would put my eggs in their basket, for sure.

I am applying to Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing for fall '08 admission. In addition to their application, they require that you take the NLN PAX (Pre-Admission Exam). I took it on March 1st, and already got my scores back yesterday. I found the verbal very easy, and the math and the science more challenging. The three sections are verbal (vocabulary and reading comprehension), math, and science. It is all multiple choice. The science section covers Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and A&P. I had taken high school biology many, many years ago, and just finished an online chem. course to meet the school's requirement. (PBISON requires that you have taken high school bio and high school chem.) I got the NLN study guide, and studied hard for a couple of months. Just take the practice exams and look beyond the book to study the questions you get wrong. Index cards and the internet are a big help! It will be a push for you to meet their application deadline of April 1st, but nothing's impossible! Are you registered with the NLN to take the exam? They fill up, and you have to have your scores in to PBISON by May 1st, so you should check into that. Beth Israel's "sister school," the Long Island College Hospital School of Nursing has an application deadline of April 21st, so you might look into that, too. Go to a PBISON open house, too. The people are all really nice and helpful there. Good luck!

hi,

i applied to PBISN. you do have to take the Pre-NLN Exam, i think that there are a few dates left in March. The deadline for the school is April 1. In the open house that I attended they recommended that you try to take the exam early and try to apply early as there is a high number of applicants. However, I would not let that deter you and would still apply. Wish you luck.

Has anyone been called for an interview yet? I have one on March 19th and I'm so nervous. I have no idea what to expect.

My interview is on Tuesday. There is an old thread that discusses what people experienced on their interviews at PBISON. Here's the link--you'll have to scroll through the discussion to find the right messages. I know it's hard not to be nervous, but from what I've heard, the interviewers are very nice. Also, at the open house, the speaker said that if you get a call for an interview, you can consider yourself almost all the way in. Good luck!

Thank you, Bayley. It went very well. Phew! Don't worry--everyone is very warm and welcoming, and there's no need to feel nervous. Dress nicely, be on time, take a deep breath and you'll be fine!
