Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in new york

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I wasn't going to do this, but oh well, maybe it will make some part of my brain feel better or what not. Anyway

Has anyone applied or been apcepted to Phillips Beth Isreal School of Nursing in New York? I know of one other person who applied i think, but not sure if anyone else that hangs out here did.

It would be nice to start a support thread or something, and hopefully this won't get burried in cyber space.

Hey guys since the beginning of my application process I have been monitoring this website. Thank G-d, like literally, got into Phillips Beth Israel. But this whole summer all I can think about is the A&P and Micro classes. Time after time I hear how horrible it is and everyone fails, how immposible the teacher is and it just feels like I am going into a lion cage and setting myself up for failure. Its causing me severe stress and we havent even started. How bad is it? Any chance of passing? Any advice?

Hi there, welcome to BI, I'll be a second year in the fall, I didn't take AP but I did take micro but the advise applies to both classes, since it was also advise my classmates who took AP gave me to get through micro.

Yes you can pass the classes, you have to be very diligent, and keep on top of your readings. Record every single lecture, listen to them multiple times. She is not the type to ask you something she did not talk about. Put just as much weight into the labs, because your lab grade boosts your final grade in the end. She grades by a point system, so you can pretty much figure out how many points you need per test to pass the class.

The instructor is very sweet and a really good lecturer ( at least in my opinion) If you want to know what the exams are like send me a PM.

I hope I answered your question

good luck, welcome, enjoy your summer, don't worry yourself to death. Emphasis on enjoying your summer!!!!

What is a PM, I just joined this website.

Private Message = its like an email account

top left of page you'll see "my account" click that and you'll see the private message link, and you should be able to figure it out from there. Again its like an email account

Specializes in Peds.

Anyone from PBISN present or future interested in any textbooks, study guides or notes? Please PM me if interested and Ill give you a list of what I have.

PBISN grad, class of 08'

I am having trouble figuring out how to PM, but I am interested to see your list. Maybe you can email them to me?

Hi Mystiqx, I just got an email about books to buy from PBISN, does it make sense that for two classes I need to make 10 purchases? Yikes!

Hey, I'm going in to second year with Mystiq and since I know she is on vacation I will answer.

So the answer is yes, and no. They expect you to buy them, but you won't really need them all. I'm pretty sure the book list is similar to ours. I only took Nursing and Math, not A&P.

First the Fundamentals book, yes you use this one all first semester and a bit in second semester. I had the binding cut off mine so I could just carry around the section I needed. The Taylor Videos were really useful, it was nice to see nursing student (actors?) give an enema before I was expected to.

The Ackley Nursing Diagnosis Handbook is a good one to have since it breaks down the NANDA Nursing Diagnoses as well as the NIC (Interventions) and NOC (Outcomes). You will need that for your Care plans. You definitely need it for second semester, and depending on your clinical instructor may need it for first. We were assigned another Care plan book (Swearington) for second semester that was also really useful.

The dictionary and Davis Drug guide, it is good to have some reference. I have mine on my pda now and haven't opened the books in a long time.

The Nursing Process book, we were assigned a couple of chapters, it was easy to read and interesting. Maybe I should have read the rest on my own? lol The Fundamentals book also has 5 chapters on the nursing process which covers most of it. (it is a topics on a 101 exam)

The Nursing leadership and management book. Haven't opened it yet. Maybe in second year?

To start you could get away with just the Fundamentals book, but who knows when a professor will randomly assign a chapter from something else.

Good luck!

Hi everybody.....I just recently got officially accepted to PBSIN......my acceptance was pending grades for classes I took this summer. They have mailed me the information packet and a request for uniforms. Because of my late acceptance I missed the uniform fittings. Did anyone go to the uniform fittings? I'm currently a medical assistant and I wear the unisex scrubs size small. The order form they sent me is female specific so I don't know if they run the same........Can anyone help??

Hey thanks for the advice on the books. Here is my next question, certain books are like 100 dollars for the new editon and like so much cheaper for the last edition. Do we need to have the up to date edition? Also in terms of ordering a uniform, I am from out of town so I could not go for a fitting. They send you an order form just use that one.

I found the uniforms ran a little big, or at least true to size. You should be fine with a small if that is what you normally wear. The tops are shapeless and unflattering on everybody so we're all equal ;-)

You will be fine with an earlier edition for most of the books, as long as it is only a couple years, not 5. The only thing is teachers may assign tables or charts to know, or pages to read so you just need to check with a friend who has the new book to make sure you are covering the right info.

Are they assigning the Taylor Fundamentals book with the Skills DVDs as a set this year? The DVDs can be hard to find alone (they were last year) and are useful. (that would be the only reason to get a new addition, if it saved money getting the set)

They want us to get fundamentals of nursing, and a set of some sort. Do you think you can PM me since I do not know how to use this thread and maybe we can exchange emails there?
