Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in new york

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I wasn't going to do this, but oh well, maybe it will make some part of my brain feel better or what not. Anyway

Has anyone applied or been apcepted to Phillips Beth Isreal School of Nursing in New York? I know of one other person who applied i think, but not sure if anyone else that hangs out here did.

It would be nice to start a support thread or something, and hopefully this won't get burried in cyber space.

I attended PBISON the open door day, there was a student who talked about how he was on a waiting list. . So, he said that he started program only next year, not the year he applied.

Oh-- I was hoping for something more encouraging. I guess the wait-list is decided after all of the admissions offers have been accepted. So we are waiting for someone to change their mind or defer.

I think you should ask in the admission office what it means to be on waiting list. Is it means that you could be accepted in the fall of this year or is it really means that you are accepted for the next year program.

the waiting list response form asks if we'd like keep our files open for fall 2008 and if not accepted wish to be considered for 2009/not.

More/less it is like if we don't make it this year,we're given priorities next year. That's the good part.

Bad part: 1 year in the waiting.

hi all,

have been away from the site for a while and missed all the discussions.firstly,Tootsie..m so sorry to hear about you.I can completely understand your position considering you had only one school choice. However,am sure you'll only come back stronger. My suggestion for you is not to stay back at BMCC but move to another CUNY college and do the remaining pre-reqs(nutrition,philo etc) while getting a chance to repeat a pre-course you might have done bad.The same semester apply for their nursing program and if you get in ,you can start your clinical in Spring 09 .Unlike BMCC,at Laguardia you don't have to wait for a smstr before applying. You can apply for candidacy the same semester you expect to finish your pre-req.Also,if you eventually decide on getting a BSN,take some of the lib arts reqs alongside during the wait period. If you don't make it at the CUNY CC for Spring class, then move to a 4 year college coz after that sticking with a 2 yr college won't make much sense.

PS: I heard Hostos is kinda ez to get in compared to other CUNY schools. You might want to check 'em out too. Also,Cochran takes accepts students twice a year.you might want to try for their spring if location is not a problem. good luck.

My next post will be about my night mare story with PBISON. hear me out.haha. take care.

Thank you so much for taking the time and posting for me:smokin:

I will consider the Hostos option! Is just that I am so in love with PBISON that somewhere deep in my heart I am still hoping that I'll be a student there one day! Is that foolish enough?

But yeah, I should be realistic and realize that something is going on with their admission process:sniff: I don't know what but something is very fishy.

Can't wait to hear your story!

I just read your story...

but emille, didn't you apply to LICHSON too?

I have a question regarding Hostos's admission policy

what are the GPA requirements?? coz if they are the same as BMCC's or Laguardia then there is no point for me to even bother changing schools just for a few prereqs. do you know if GPA has to be sky high?

If you look up at their nursing dept's website ,you will find that their pre-reqs courses are different than other CUNY schools.

Eng 2(Ltr)

AP2

Chemistry

AP1 and

Eng 1.

In addition NLN is reqd and then your overall GPA too is calculated.

When all this is taken into consideration,it is more work than just 4 pre-reqs stuff. It is very obvious that Eng 2(Ltr) ,AP2 and

Chemistry are not easy as Psy 1 or Med Maths, so most students I've heard get in with GPA 2.8-3.FOr the exact figure, ring 'em up.

How are your grades in courses cited above & your overall college GPA.Accordingly,i guess you can figure out.

Here's the link btw,http://www.hostos.cuny.edu/oaa/PDF/Nursing.pdf

As for LAGCC,I wouldn't encourage you applying here unless you screwed up only one of the 4 pre-req and are willing to work super hard to get that A. It's pretty much like BMCC.Last semester was 3.8

The pre-reqs here are

1.English

2.CHEMistry

3.AP1

4.Gen Psy

Ok Guys Update!!

I did not get into Beth Israel...I was close..but no cigar!

But I think I did get into another school..which was my first choice because its a BSN program...

college of new rochelle sounds very promising to me, currently I am taking a pre-req ( a&p2), so they said they are deferring my acceptance until I finish those classes..but until then I still have an interview..so wish me luck!!!

YAY!!! Smooches!:specs::loveya:

I wonder, guys, what do you know or think about Pace University?? Thanks.

I called the school ( Hostos) and I spoke with an admission conselor . she didn't encourage me to transfer coz she said their student are prioritized and since there aren't too many seats, most likely I am not going to get in:eek:

however, I should go and have my credits evaluated by their school.

I am putting this off for now since I am not going to register for this Fall, anyway. and then, in the fall I might just get to talk to the transfer conselor...

thanks again, emille.
