Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in new york

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I wasn't going to do this, but oh well, maybe it will make some part of my brain feel better or what not. Anyway

Has anyone applied or been apcepted to Phillips Beth Isreal School of Nursing in New York? I know of one other person who applied i think, but not sure if anyone else that hangs out here did.

It would be nice to start a support thread or something, and hopefully this won't get burried in cyber space.

PS. Reading part was pretty the same as in the book.

I though it was waaaaaaaaaaay harder:eek::o

the reading/vocabulary part was the most difficult for me.( English is my second language!)

I spoke to someone yesterday, she said that spots at PBISON fill out fast. The sooner you apply the better, never wait till the dead line. Your application should be ready by the first day PBISON start accept applications. Also, the score on NLN should be pretty high. The girl got into program at Fall 2008, even though she dropped out from some other nursing program and that showed on her transcript, however she scored high on NLN over 140.

my file was completed by early March, except the NLN( end of march)

but if they do rolling admission why they tell people deadline in April 1????

this is awful.

Hi Tootsieny,

As far as the tutoring, if you are in a program now, doing pre-reqs, the school should have tutors in subjects such as Math, English and Sciences (bio, A&P, and Physics). If so, check with them and they may offer tutoring services. I do not know of any programs, other then the one offered at Hunter College for pre-nursing students, but you have to be a matriculating student there and meet the criteria for getting into the program. If you'd like I can ask some of my friends in nursing programs now to see if they know of anything.

I only used the Mary McDonald book to study from. I copied the scan-tron sheet and timed myself while taking the tests. It helped me to prepare although it didn't help my nerves any the day of the test. (I tried to spend the most time on the parts that I felt I needed the most, especially the math section.)

Hope this helps.

I completed my pre-reqs already but I am going back in the Fall to take two of the remaining courses( Nutrition& Ethics) required at PBISON ; I will do that at BMCC so maybe I cand do tutoring there.

The book is great but looks like it was not enough in my case:crying2:

I am also planning to apply to Hunter college.Just wondering what their policy is...Maybe I will apply as a transfer student from BMCC.What do you guys think about that? I have to visit their website see what I have to do.

I know they only offer daytime courses but I will try anyway see what comes out:cool:

thanks again.

Hey tootsieny,

I'm sorry you did not get accepted this time around, it will happen for you though!

I really do not believe that PBISN does rolling admissions. I know my application was complete the last possible day, and I took the NLN the last seating, and I got in. They look at every application that was received before the deadline equally. Many people who had their applications in early in the year still had to wait until after the deadline to find anything out.

Unless Hunter changed their policies this year... they are incredibly hard to get into (high GPA and NLN required), and you must be a matriculated hunter student before even applying to their nursing school.

Have you considered NYCCT? PBISN now has an agreement with them for students who want to go on and finish their BSN. Also try Adelphi, Kignsborough CC, LaGuardia CC, Helene Fuld, LICH, St. Vincents.

I don't think that any accredited school could make you a bad RN if you are committed and willing to put in the work. PBISN is great, but don't let not getting in one school derail your dreams.

Good luck!

Hello, everyone! I've also applied to PBISN and waiting for their reply. Vixen, if you don't mind, I have a question regarding the last 25 folders and the waiting list mentioned in your post. Do you know if the ones chosen from the remaining 25 folders are strictly for waiting list and/or acceptance to their program? Thanks!

tootsieny,

I had an interview at LICHSON and waiting for some reply. I applied to the evening program hoping to get in, but as turned out for the evening program they have 4x less spots (approx. 15 to 80) than for the day program. I did not know that. Also, English is my second language. Look for options. Do not narrow your options to only 1 or 2 schools. Expand your choices, prioritize. Consider community colleges too, check what other students think about that school/program. I do not think that Hunter is the place where you can get in on the program easier. Weight your options against your abilities. What is optimal choice, what is realistic for you.

You always have to have a plan B. :) Some colleges accept 2x a year. Not so bad for you because during fall semester you can take some classes you think you need, then it will be the end of the year and in January some colleges start give NLN test. It is not so bad overall and you did not waist much time either. I did that after taking all my prerequisites, Kingsborough did not allow me to change my major to pre-clinical nursing to take NLN exam because I officially withdraw form sam class and that was shown on my transcript even though I took that class again and did well. . That is how Kingsborough treats its students.

Ill give you her exact quote. " Honestly they are in there right now making the decision of the waiting list, whether they will be on the list or they will close the file."

So call today, they probably have made the decision by now.

Good luck Vixen17 and Stalee! Hopefully you'll be hearing some good news soon!
