Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in new york

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I wasn't going to do this, but oh well, maybe it will make some part of my brain feel better or what not. Anyway

Has anyone applied or been apcepted to Phillips Beth Isreal School of Nursing in New York? I know of one other person who applied i think, but not sure if anyone else that hangs out here did.

It would be nice to start a support thread or something, and hopefully this won't get burried in cyber space.

just apply earlier next year, maybe their seats filled up. I was surprised that you still did not receive a letter at this point, also apply to every school imaginable next year. Someone is bound to accept you into the program. Beth Israel is a GREAT school, but it doesnt define what kind of nurse youre going to be, good luck. I have faith you will get in next year.

thank you for support.

I did call the school to find out what they mean by reapplying in writing is you're right, I just have to retake NLN ( btw when should I do that??? PBISON reopen the NLN seats for nex year's admission in January but I believe I could actually take it before that , in September...coz it I took it in March and I believe you can retest every six months or so.

or should I wait till January and study hard until then?

they also said that my gpa was very good, everything else was fine except my verbal section was not good I only scored 53:-((( Math 63 and science 89.

My advice would be to take the test the first date in January. They advise to take the test the first test date in January, so that is what I would do. It actually is what I did. If they already have all of the other supporting materials then all they need is the test score. So take the time to study and even get a tutor if your having a difficult time. Wish you all the best.

I thank everybody,studygirl, Natingale

studygirl question: you mentioned about getting tutoring?? do they offer tutoring at PBISON?? I really only have the studybook they suggest we should be familiar with . I also used other sources for math and science to practice except for the verbal section, I have no clue what else to study from:specs:

did you guys used other sources except Mary McDonald???

any help and suggestions are highly appreciated:D

thanks again for kind words and advice.

with respect of applying to every school imaginable:-) there is a little problem because I work fulltime and can't afford to go daytime :-(((so, there is a limitation to which schools I can actually apply to.

but I will apply to more than just one maybeI will try LICHSON.

PBISON is still going to be my first choice:smokin:

Tootsieny ~ In regards to what other materials you can use to study from, I would check out some bookstores or online and look at the other pre-nursing exam prep books, as well as, maybe getting a Cliff Notes review in any particular area you had trouble, like the verbal section. Hope that helps and good luck. Here's some links with examples of other books:

thank you sooooooo much!:flowersfo

I spoke to someone yesterday, she said that spots at PBISON fill out fast. The sooner you apply the better, never wait till the dead line. Your application should be ready by the first day PBISON start accept applications. Also, the score on NLN should be pretty high. The girl got into program at Fall 2008, even though she dropped out from some other nursing program and that showed on her transcript, however she scored high on NLN over 140.

Hi Tootsieny,

As far as the tutoring, if you are in a program now, doing pre-reqs, the school should have tutors in subjects such as Math, English and Sciences (bio, A&P, and Physics). If so, check with them and they may offer tutoring services. I do not know of any programs, other then the one offered at Hunter College for pre-nursing students, but you have to be a matriculating student there and meet the criteria for getting into the program. If you'd like I can ask some of my friends in nursing programs now to see if they know of anything.

I only used the Mary McDonald book to study from. I copied the scan-tron sheet and timed myself while taking the tests. It helped me to prepare although it didn't help my nerves any the day of the test. (I tried to spend the most time on the parts that I felt I needed the most, especially the math section.)

Hope this helps.

If you need some extra help in the author of NLN gives suggested additional reading. For reading comprehension and vocabulary you will find on p. 69, for math -on p. 159, and for science- p. 194. From my observation--we did not have any vocabulary words from M. McDonalds book, the math part pretty the same as in the book, also science given in the book is not enough to be prepared for the test.

PS. Reading part was pretty the same as in the book.
