Hello, I just graduated from with my BSN from Philippines. I am ready to come to America and find work, I understand there is lots of work for nurses in most parts of the USA.
I think Texas is going to be my destination, I have other batchmates whom are now working in Texas, Some in Lubbock, Houston and Dallas. I look at BON 4 Texas, and requirements seem straightforward. I will send my CES in this week, and I will start my application to Texas BON.
I have decided to not take my local exam in Philippines and study for NCLEX. How long is review class in USA for NCLEX and what is cost? I also heard that NCLEX is offered daily.
What will be starting salary in Dallas? Will I be paid full rate for training? I look forward to being able to help support my family when I start working in USA.
Can I get my Social Security card as soon as I enter the USA? I will plan on 3 to 4 months of paperwork in USA once I arrive in order to get my affairs in order and start my job search. It is difficult to work as nurse in Philippines cuz no hospitals will hire new nurse, and I look forward to being the best nurse I can be in America:redbeathe
review course in the philippines and here in the US are entirely different. for example, kaplan.. they dont give lectures or review you about the nursing contents. they just give you strategies how to answer nclex questions. your nursing content will be your self study. but kaplan will provide you with good a book, lots of information online and lots of nclex questions to practice but they cost $500 for 30 hours class (8 days-3.5 hours a day or 4 days whole day)..
Thank You, Looking forward to NCLEX test, Heard it was pretty easy to pass. My fiance is considering sending me to school to be a Nurse Practioner while I work. I am waiting his decision on this.

I wouldn't say it is easy to pass seeing as less that 50% of International nurses pass it first time. The key is preparation

Here in the USA, a woman doesn't have to ask her Fiance about returning to school especially since you will be working and can pay for your self.
You may find your four year degree doesn't equal to American 4 year degree since high school is 12 grades. Also most grad schools do want students with experience.
How are the wedding plans going?

Whoa! slow down there. I wouldn't let others sway you to think that the exam is easy. Overconfidence can sometimes be your demise in terms of success in passing this test. Just a friendly advice.

Why wouldn't she ask a fiance about a plan that would require her to devote a great deal of time away from the relationship. I've worked with people who ended up on the verge of a divorce while one spouse was going to graduate school.
I don't think she'll have a problem getting her 4-year degree accepted as equivalent, at least in terms of getting a Master's degree. But I do agree that she should take some time to gain experience first just so she is familiar with how things are done here in the US.

I think what struck some of us was that her original comment wasn't about her asking her fiance about graduate school -- it was that the fiance might be deciding to "send" her to school to become an NP. Sounds, from her own statement, like she has no say in the matter -- which certainly sounds strange to American ears. I understand other countries and cultures do things differently ...

Oh, I didn't catch that...well, yeah that's kinda strange.
