Philippine Nurse Coming to USA

Hello, I just graduated from with my BSN from Philippines. I am ready to come to America and find work, I understand there is lots of work for nurses in most parts of the USA.

I think Texas is going to be my destination, I have other batchmates whom are now working in Texas, Some in Lubbock, Houston and Dallas. I look at BON 4 Texas, and requirements seem straightforward. I will send my CES in this week, and I will start my application to Texas BON.

I have decided to not take my local exam in Philippines and study for NCLEX. How long is review class in USA for NCLEX and what is cost? I also heard that NCLEX is offered daily.:nurse:

What will be starting salary in Dallas? Will I be paid full rate for training? I look forward to being able to help support my family when I start working in USA. :yeah:

Can I get my Social Security card as soon as I enter the USA? I will plan on 3 to 4 months of paperwork in USA once I arrive in order to get my affairs in order and start my job search. It is difficult to work as nurse in Philippines cuz no hospitals will hire new nurse, and I look forward to being the best nurse I can be in America:redbeathe

I am planning on flying from Manila to Dallas Texas on April 22nd, I have to change planes in San Fransico.

Where will be my Port of Entry? Is there any airport tax terminal fee?

I would read this section and website. There is retrogression, long, long wait. Unless you have a good reason not to take the local exam you will find that most states mandate having a local license. Nursing positions are not plentiful, again do some reading

Last you will not get a SSN until you have permission to work in the USA.

I suggest you rethink about taking NLE because as mentioned in previous post you will be affected by retrogression and currently there are many many nurses including nurses from the Philippines in the long queue waiting for a visa

great plan and intentions....but not really possible at the moment.

I have my Visa in hand it is good for 6 months, U.S. Embassy delivered it to me last week. I plan on taking CFO when I go to Manila a few days before my flight leaves for USA.

Thank You, Texas is my destination and will be my new home and from my knowledge a local license is not required there.

Are you sure about Social Security Cards, I was told by other Pinays whom are now in the USA that they went to Social Security Office in USA and had thier Social Security Card in hand within a few weeks after entering USA.

If your visa is a tourist visa, it does not allow you to work. Glad to hear that you have picked a place to live, but they will not be allowed to employ you. No work visa no ssn. Sorry. The information you heard I really can't comment - but a tourist visa does not allow you to work.

There are no short cuts.

innocence is bliss. before posters start answering your questions, i suggest you follow the advise of silverdragon and medsurg to have a quick read so that you'll at least have an idea on what's going on in the field of nursing in the U.S.

If it is a tourist visa then you can not apply for SSN and you can not work. Currently with retrogression there is no way you can change your status and stay in the US and work, to AOS your visa category needs to be current and that will not happen at the moment

your visa is valid only for 6 months? it must be a tourist visa. you cant work in the us with that type of visa.
