PHCC Fall 2014 hopefuls!

Published

I want to meet some of you! I'm just getting ready to take my last 3 finals, have been studying for the TEAS for months now, and will be able to apply for next fall's nursing program (YAYAY!) I'd love to hear from some potential future classmates, how you are doing/ did with pre-reqs/ TEAS, and share the excitement upon acceptances!

Yah, such a good idea! I'll amend the first post (if I can figure out how...ah, technology!) so we can keep tabs on everyone! Scarlet, I remember getting like FIVE of those...like borderline harassment when I took A and P through SPC. Be sure to call in and confirm that they have received it and filed it properly in your file or they could put your FA on hold!

I am also going to add in acceptance status for when the time comes! WOO HOO! ;-)

Just tried...no dice on editing the first post...oh well. Here's mine:

4.0/92.7/ADN/Porter

4.0/92.7/ADN/Porter - theAFwife

4.0/82%/Generic RN/West Campus - Scarletjones

There we go :)

Oh, a running list! Good thinking ;-) I would have never thought of that! Lol

I applied for FASFA and they wont even tell me if I'm approved until they receive the summer transcript which really blows. I put in a request at SPC so that once grades are posted they will send the transcript electronically right away...but its still cutting it close to the beginning of the fall semester.

Thanks Gabby!

No one hoping for West Campus ? :(

Well, be happy you get FA! Lol I didn't qualify for a single penny for 2014-2015 so I've been working my tail off trying to save up enough for tuition for the ADN program so that I maybe (by some miracle!) won't have to keep working during it. Probably not happening though unfortunately!

Looking good, ladies!

We survived the first week of June....I dont know about you guys, but time is really flying by for me.

Does anyone know how honors society's work and if I should even bother joining? I received an invitation to Phi Theta Kappa and I'm not sure what it really entails. I supposed I could call the school and get more info but that would be too easy

I keep hearing mixed opinions - some say join because it looks great on your resume and that they offer scholarships, and others say its a money-making gimmick and you have to go to all these meetings and stuff.

Scarlet, I received an invitation to become a "school ambassador" a week or so ago. They incentivized it by offering a polo and a windbreaker with the PHSC emblem on them. I guess there is a stipend involved, but you have to log 10 volunteer hours a week and can be at any of the campuses, so I figured it wouldn't be worth it. I can tell you that I know two of the three coordinating professors of Phi Theta Kappa though!! Ms. Lamarca-Frankel at East and Dr. Poller at West are fabulous. Poller has been my favorite prof thus far! I think it might be worth looking into...anything that can make you stand out when applying for jobs when you've completed the program. I think there is always the option to opt out if it becomes too much with the nursing program.

And actually, this brings up something that I've actually been wondering about: Do any of you do extracirricular things though PHSC? I can count on one hand the number of times I've been on campus (and the number of fellow students I know)! Lol

Just noticed how I spelled "society's" :wacky: Must drink more coffee before posting.

Thanks for the reply, AFwife. I really dont have time to do any extracurricular activities; my kids are still very young a require a great amount of work and attention.

If Phi Theta Kappa requires 10 hours of service a week from me, it wouldnt be a good fit.

Honestly, I dont think I'll have a problem getting a job as a new grad. I know the hospital I worked for previously would hire me in an instant and I have other ties with another local hospital.
