PHCC Fall 2014 hopefuls!

Published

I want to meet some of you! I'm just getting ready to take my last 3 finals, have been studying for the TEAS for months now, and will be able to apply for next fall's nursing program (YAYAY!) I'd love to hear from some potential future classmates, how you are doing/ did with pre-reqs/ TEAS, and share the excitement upon acceptances!

After reading last year's fall thread, it looks like they started getting theirs at about the 21st of June. One of the EMT's got theirs at about the 9th, but just about everyone else was during the 3rd week of June.

I'm dying to know...I'm a planner, so I need to know to mentally prepare myself...lol

Nushca,

What sort of things are on the checklist that needs to be completed by orientation?

From what I understand it's background check, cpr cert, drug test, immunizations....what else?

ScarletJones,

Here is what you need to do, and I suggest you get some of them done while waiting for your letter, might help calm you down too, lol

1. You need your CPR certificate, should be American Heart Association.

2. The background check is done by the school on your behalf, you just need to sign a page (in the package) to authorize them to do that.

3. Immunization:Polio (do not need record, they take your word for it if you say you had it during childhood), Tetorifice (you need to have record, if older than 10 year you need to get a booster), Rubella & Varicella (records, if older than 3 years then you'll need a booster), TB test (not older than 3 months), Hepatitis B (records showing completed series within the last 5 years, if you do not have it, then you will sign a paper basically saying at your own risk!)

4. Flu shot: You can get those at CVS or Wallgreens, should be recent

5. Physical health report: There is a two page form in the package you receive and you need to see a doctor to examine you (sight, hearing, BP, etc..) and fill in/sign the form.

6. Drug & Alcohol test: There is one page in the package with instructions to go to a website, make appointment and take the test.

After you completed everything you need to keep a complete set of copies for yourself and turn the package in. There is also instruction of a website to go in and upload the scan of all your immunization, etc.. where your records are accessible to school and clinical sites.

There is also a list of equipment in your package. When you buy your books there is a lab kid that comes with it, you'll use it during the first 5 weeks at the campus lab for the skills. Besides that you'll need only a BP-cuff, Stethoscope and a pen-light. You can buy the scrubs from the college store within the first 5 weeks since you'll need them only when going to hospital. You have to buy the top from the store but not the pants. Nobody liked the big fluffy pants, we all bout it at scrubs stores outside. You'll basically need white sneakers for the hospital.

I cannot think of anything else right now. Hope it helps!

Thank you - you're a doll! You're feeding my brain; helping me organize and be prepared for what I need to do next.

Look at me acting like I received an accept letter :roflmao: I refuse to believe I'm not getting in....my positive vibes are beaming.

I'll have to meet you some day on campus and treat you to a cup of Joe.

Are you at West Campus?

*Disclaimer * If I dont get in, I will be crushed and feel like a complete fool.

LOL...thank you, I'd like to meet you too!

I live in Hernando Beach by Spring Hill, 5 minutes drive to SH campus. But I'm at west campus very often. For this summer, I'm there on Tuesdays/Thursdays from 9:00-13:00 for microbiology.

If you are interested, we can meet either on campus or outside somewhere!

I just got a call from the admissions office telling me that I have not been a student for over a year so I have to re apply to the school itself. I maybe reading into this too much but I think it's good sign. The women I spoke to also told me the acceptance letters go out next week! By the way I am 36 years old I have been in the medical field for 7 years now. 3 years as a medical assistant and 4 as a mri/X-ray tech. I met the love of my life in the lpn program and we are getting married June 7. She is also going to be in the transition program. She has been accepted for a grant through the hospital and does not have to go through the application process.

NEXT WEEK FOR ADN PROGRAM AS WELL!?!?!? Congratulations to your wife (I am sure you will be close to follow!) and what an amazing accomplishment already to have been in the medical field for 7 years! Did you enjoy being the imaging tech? My eventual dream is to become a radiologist!

I think all of the acceptance letters will go out together but I am not sure. Mri was very boring! You sit behind a computer all day and there is very little patient interaction. Also there are not many jobs out there in the field. Unless you you like sitting in a office all day reading film and writing reports I would not recommend that job. The pay is great but you get very little patient interaction.

Oh boy, I can hardly wait!!! :-) The minimal patient interaction was actually what intrigued me about radiology (I know that sounds so terrible, but I am painfully socially awkward...and kind of a germaphobe...go figure!) I will definitely have to call around and try to shadow some radiologists before making up my mind, though!

LOL...thank you, I'd like to meet you too!

We'll definitely set something up for sometime this summer! :)

Next time I'm heading to west campus, I'll touch base with you.

What do they mean by having to apply to the school itself?

Congratulations to your fiance and on your engagement...AND on your wedding in 4 days!!!!!! How awesome!

Best wishes to you!

If letters start arriving next week I'll be so stoked.

This is getting exciting, you guys.
