PHCC Fall 2014 hopefuls!

Published

I want to meet some of you! I'm just getting ready to take my last 3 finals, have been studying for the TEAS for months now, and will be able to apply for next fall's nursing program (YAYAY!) I'd love to hear from some potential future classmates, how you are doing/ did with pre-reqs/ TEAS, and share the excitement upon acceptances!

Does anyone know where the clinical sites will be for students accepted at the porter wiregrass campus?

Also, does anyone know what the average salaray/hourly pay is for an RN right out of school vs. BSN?

I think starting pay is around $23-$25...depending on a lot of things.

Sorry, no help with info of clinical sites.

I confused about something - If I submitted my application to West Campus, I'm only applying for that campus right? I asked this very question to someone in admissions and that they said that I would have to submit an application to each campus I would want to be considered for..which is fine by me because I only want West Campus. I would hate to get accepted and it be to a far away campus.

Thank you Scarlet! I hope we all get in! I'm sure you'll get in because your gpa and scores are great :)

As far as your question, I'm not totally sure but I think you apply once and it counts for all campuses. They can put you wherever they want, but they try to keep you to the campus closest to where you live. I applied at Porter Campus and hope I get placed there (if I get in lol) since it's literally two minutes from my house!

I'm not sure about the clinical sites but wouldn't it be great if clinicals were at the new Florida Hospital that is right next to Wiregrass?

That's too ironic that you all found my YouTube! Lol :-) Following people's nursing school vlogs is kind of my guilty pleasure! As for applying to individual campuses, you essentially do not have the option to do this. They put you where there is room and that's that. I think they take into consideration your location, but if the nearest campus is full and there is a seat at another campus, they will stick you there. I've heard that clinicals can be ALL over! I haven't heard of any at the new FH of WC though, but every time I drive past that facility I find myself daydreaming about working there. It's literally so nice! It'd be awesome to have clinicals there and get my foot in the door!

Hi,

I am not sure about the Porter Campus but for the ones accepted at West Campus there are 4 hospitals: Trinity, Oak Hill, Spring Hill Regional and Bayonet Point. Those were the locations for us for the Fundamentals. However it might change slightly since we were 4 clinical groups, each 12 students. You're gonna be 3 groups of 12 and they need to adjust the settings accordingly.

As to the salary for the RNs fresh out of school is approx. $25/h.

When i was accepted to the transition program last year i was originally going to be at the west campus. I requested that i be moved to the Brooksville campus because it was closer to my home. I have also heard from students and faculty that the Brooksville campus was better. I am not even worried about being accepted and as far as I can see from everyone's teas and gpa neither should any of you. If was accepted last year while the emt were being accepted then we should have no problem this year.

How did everyone get into pursuing nursing? Also, I'm wondering what sort of age range we have. I'm 22 and am getting into nursing because, after my life essentially being in shambles and having to piece everything back together, I realized that I love helping people--I always say that people are my passion. Whereas I'd always thought I would do something involving a certain talent or a skill, I realized that my empathy is my biggest strength. After some research, I was interested in PA school and decided that RN would be a great foundation. I've since set my hopes (high) to transition to premed after becoming an RN and gain experience in a clinical setting while simultaneously getting my bachelor's and taking the MCAT. What about you all!?

I became a CNA when I was 18 and then monitor technician, and unit secretary. I always knew I wanted to help people! I work at Oak Hill and absolutely LOVE it here! I have worked at another hospital but this is my home. I cannot be a LPN here, so I work as the other 3 things instead, as I patiently wait to become an RN. It has been a long road but worth it. I like ICU, but what I really feel like I want to do is either work with FEMA, or some type or response team. Or work with orphaned kids if possible. We shall see!! I ultimately would love to become a nurse practioner though. Lets just start with getting an acceptance letter! Lol. I LOVED my nursing school and the friends I made along the way. Im excited to get back into that atmosphere once again.

( I am 27**) old lady. lol;-)

For me, it's been a long struggle figuring out what exactly I wanted to do with my life. I went to USF when I was 18 and went into premed. It wasn't for me at the time. Then psychology, which was interesting but I wasn't sure if that's what I wanted to go into. I transferred to HCC since it's much cheaper and started doing my gen ed classes here and there. Then, my grandma was really sick and I went to visit her often. There was this nurse there that was so sweet and made me feel so much better. I loved the way she acted toward my grandma, too. That's when it clicked and I was filled with the feeling that I wanted to be a nurse and help other people. I transferred to PHCC (which I like so much more than HCC).

I worked at a daycare from when I was 16 on and I LOVE kids. So I want to work in pediatrics. After I get my ASN I want to transfer back to USF and get my Bachelor's and then I'll start working on my Master's to ultimately be a practitioner.

Oh! And I'm 23. Will be 24 in July :( wish I was 18 again but that's another story lol.

I've always had a fascination with the human body and how it works. I LOVE surgery! I became a medical assistant when I was 18 and worked in a hospital for 4-5 years in outpatient surgery doing preop and some post op. I then left to pursue surgical assisting and got through almost the whole program until life events interfered and withdrew. I got married shortly after and opened a business with my husband. Fast forward 10 years and 3 kids later and here I am. I wish I would have done this a long time ago. I have 3 kids - 1, 2, and 7.

I would love to work in surgery - pre op, post op, circulating nurse - or maternity. I am intrigued about the ER but dont know if I'll like it. We'll see I guess.

Oh, and I'm 33 :nailbiting:
