Petty and not proud of it

Ok so - first fire drill of the season is WELL-ADVERTISED. As in, if you'll bother to read your email you will see the time today we're all getting an unplanned recess.

How many kids come to visit three minutes before go time?

Two. Both non-emergent. Both sent out to return post-drill. One came back, the other didn't.

What else is making you petty and not proud today?

I realize you posted this yesterday so I'm a little late to the game....but yesterday I had a student come to me, referred by the teacher, for "possible allergic reaction to ant bites," which the student got *wait for it* 4 days ago!!!!

Multiple ant bites on her leg with typical localized reaction symptoms to...idk...a stimulus foreign to the body?! No generalized swelling, pus, oozing, rash, inflammation, erythema, itching, etc. Just typical ant bites.

I wanted to write a note back to the teacher that said "show me your credentials please? What makes you qualified to tell a student she's having an allergic reaction??" But I simply wrote, "no reaction symptoms" with a great big smiley face ?

Mavnurse17 Yes!!! How I wish teachers would stick to teaching and let us do our jobs!

A few years back I had a teacher who would send written nurse pass with "check temp" written on it, no other reason for sending the students. I would ask the student what else was going on and most would say the teacher just said I "felt hot". After several of these I returned the nurse pass with "No fever, Teach class". I didn't get any more passes requesting "check temp" after that. ??

I love this so much, however a few of my teachers would cry real tears if I was that "mean" to them?

GREAT BIG SMILEY FACE.

If I have the time and I'm feelin' it...I will call a teacher to tell her that. Somehow taking up her time makes it worth it.

LOL. Actually I am surprised I didn't get in trouble for the comment, it was just one of those days, ya know.

I think we all have a tendency to be petty at times. We are always an afterthought unless we are needed, others with non-medical credentials are always trying to tell us how to do our jobs, most parents think we are unreasonable just be cause we don't want to lose our license, we hardly ever get a lunch break and we are rarely are invited to the parties. Laughing as I write this, but it written with a big dose of sarcasm, of course. ?

ok, you guys encouraged me. I thought I was being petty, but probably letting the front desk drama cloud mu vision on student privacy. I sent the most uber professional email to the HR person to ask our policy on this (we are a private school and currently revising policies, so I framed it in that way) and suggest a staff training/email on protected student information.

@jnemartin I think that is an excellent way to handle it!

Petty thing today: It's the freaking beginning of the year and all parents are required in our district to update their kid's electronic record (which includes phone numbers and contact info).

Week 2 - why can't I get ahold of you, parent? Good thing it's not an emergency.

How about the new preK teacher who comes into my somewhat busy office yesterday with her laptop and says "Not sure if you can help me with this but you have been soooo helpful - can you show me how to enter my attendance? I am not sure why my screen looks different today."

Um, no!!!!

Petty and PROUD of it! ?

I posted about this before, but there is an update.... a student requested to see me after school when she was not feeling well and I was in a meeting (I do not see students after school hours), and the front desk ladies just had her sit and wait for me to get out of my meeting to assess her, rather than simply call her parents for pickup (did not need any permission to leave, was after school on her own accord). Student did have fever of 101 (I did assess her, and spoke with mom).

Anyway, yesterday the front desk lady sent an email to the ENTIRE SCHOOL saying that the student has pna and will be out for a few days. She has never done this before. We don't have a written protocol, but what has been done in the past is the front desk will inform me and I will inform the necessary teachers, but certainly not the ENTIRE staff. I feel this is like an "I told you so" to me, although it's misdirected because I never disputed that the girl was sick, just that they should have acted instead of letting her sit in misery for an hour for no reason. Here is the petty and not proud part: I seriously want to go to HR and make a report about privacy violation. An email to the entire school is so inappropriate. But I feel this will only make things worse.

You absolutely should report the privacy violation. She was totally out of line.

Petty and Proud of it!! So on top of the morning rush of "I vomited on the bus/in the car line" and other complaints and medication that is given before school even starts, I have TA that comes to my office asking if I could come to her class room to check a temp because so & so "feels hot to the teacher". NO I cannot, you could have brought the student with you as you walked to the clinic. SMH. Thankful it's Friday!!!
