who are these people?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that certain members will post a topic that they darn well know is going to cause strife on our BB and then just disappear?

They post topics such as RN vs. BSN

LPN vs. RN

BSN vs. MSN

(what's with the "vs." isn't that for COMPETITORS?)

etc, etc, blah blah...and then , poof, they're gone or maybe, just maybe, they'll have a simple minded reply and then disappear until they start their next thread set out to divide.

Maybe I'm just tired of seeing so much of it, maybe I'm just tired tonight, period...but I see it happening alot.

IMO, I think most are very closed minded, judgemental BORED people who instigate what is "supposedly" a discussion ha ha and then sit back and watch some of the members of this board feed right into their game.

I don't know why, and personally, I am just about ready to say so long to this board because of it.

These threads get the most views, replies, etc and these posters eat that right up. They must enjoy strife amongst nurses and I am going to go out on a limb and say they are people who suffer from very low self-esteem, you know the kind....don't feel secure in their position in nursing or in life so try to bring everyone down with their own miserable lack of self-worth and smooth talking ways of posting.

Of course there are those replies that smack of their own low sense of self worth when they reply in what appears to be a positive way but they are "implying" something else. ya know, got to get that point across....

What a statement this makes that so many hop right in and post replies defending theirselves or their positions...unless, of course, some are not being the ones written about so they add their 1 cent and move on...there are all kinds....come on now, can't most of us tell already these people are TROLLS, really now, let's all come together as NURSES and stop their plight to divide us or they will surely succeed and who knows what this BB will become.

I don't care if you have 12-16 mos preparation, 2 yrs, 4yrs or more. We are ALLNURSES and there are good and bad just as in any profession. Yes, I typed profession.

I'll some it up this way. If someone feels they have to post a topic that begins with so and so vs. so OR "not to flame anyone" but I .....yadda, yadda, yadda, I pretty much know it's going to be a real "ah, I'm bored, so let's start this again" type thread and won't give them the benefit of a reply...that's just me.

Carry on, who's next?

Have a good night fellow nurses :)

Yes, Yes, Yes! I thought I was the only one who noticed!

A very young guy with which I used to work told me the term for these type of people is "player-hater" :)

Specializes in Psych, Med/Surg, Home Health, Oncology.

Hi;

I am fairly new to this site, myself, and as a matter a fact I noticed that. Actually, my husband also noticed that.

Just thought I'd just jump in with that.

Specializes in ICU.

Hey if you think that is bad think about us poor moderators who have to read through this again and again.

Then when we have the "audacity" to actually call them on their clear violations most of them turn around give us and earful about "freedom of speech" and "I must be popular I got the most replies". Then they gather up their marbles and march off in high dudgeon.

We are often caught in a between a rock and a hard place as we HAVE to take some action some time to prevent the board from degenerating into a free-for-all.

Honestly sometimes I feel like just posting a sign

But there are those who thrive on a juicy bit of troll meat and cry foul when and if we take their favourite toy away.

What a lot of people do not realize is that there is actually several types of troll but here I will dwell on just two.

1) Hit and Run or "Mad Trucker Troll" This little beastie only ever posts the one post and then disappears. Often it is something like "Tell me the best way to get into nursing so I can marry a rich doctor because I deserve to be wealthy."bat_angel.gif

Trouble is that this starts an argument that can resurface periodically for years to come. Just when you think it is dead and buried it rises again as a whole new group of members discover it and the argument starts again argue.gif

Then there are those who seem to know every button we have and are intent to stay and push them all. They seem to want to argue incessantly on every topic. These Trawler Trolls are the ones that trawl up every old argument there is and work it to death. They will adhere to an argument beyond reason just to keep the reactions coming.

"A moderators lot is not a happy one":roll

Awwww, don't do anything as drastic as leaving. Here's what I do - read the post subject and if vs. is in the title don't go there. I also do not post to anything that stinks or even makes me think for a split second that it's meant to inflame and divide. These sorts of people come and go and will go for good if no one rises to the bait. This B.B. is what you make it and I for one will not be

run off by the bullies. (There's too much to keep up on, like jnetts avitars!!) :)

Specializes in Med-Surg, Trauma, Ortho, Neuro, Cardiac.

Don't feed the trolls. There are some people who know this will get a big discussion and say something to start a heated discussion.

Sometimes it takes me a while to recognize they are being a troll.

Other times I feel someone actually feels the need to vent, or actually believes what they are saying and we become trolls to them. Perhaps someone was just recently burned by an arrogant RN, BSN and is clouded and angry and then posts..."why do RNs think they are better". Or a student on a bad unit with poor morale, posts "why do nurses eat their young". Or someone feels "why don't nurses practice what they preach in the way of role modeling good health". I don't feel these people are trolls, but get eaten alive by people here "why are you so judgemental....", then they get defensive and perhaps become trolls themselves and storm off never to be seen from again.

Sometimes I'm a troll. :)

Anyway, don't sweat the small stuff. Take the good with the bad and carry on.

So basically anyone that starts a topic of a controversial nature and defends their opinion is a troll ?

In that case this thread could be labeled a troll thread :)

The obvious trolls are easy to spot, they are short posts lacking sustenance. I would hope that we would all have differing opinions or this would be a very boring board. Where I think the line should be drawn is personal attacks, I can say I don't agree with your opinion, and why I believe it is wrong, one shouldn't say you are a raging moron.

Also, no one is forcing you to read an entire thread. I read the first few lines if it is something of interest to me I keep reading if not I hit my hotkeyed backbutton on my mouse :) easy as pie

This was too cute not to quote!

Gee, I must be going to the wrong threads. I haven't seen a real personal attack for quite a while. But, chad's right, if you don't like it, don't respond.

Guess you haven't seen the Nurses aren't doctors thread

All in all I think the members here (over 30,000 members and over 14,000 active members) are REALLY good at not trolling.

I tip my hat to all of you who love this board and post appropriately.

The staff of volunteer moderators do an excellant job at keeping an eye on things and depend on their fellow members to help keep them posted on possible trouble areas.

This is truly a great place for questions, answers and hanging out.

Sure we get some who only want to cause discontent but it is YOU, the member that keeps it all in check.

Thanks,

-Russell
