who are these people?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that certain members will post a topic that they darn well know is going to cause strife on our BB and then just disappear?

They post topics such as RN vs. BSN

LPN vs. RN

BSN vs. MSN

(what's with the "vs." isn't that for COMPETITORS?)

etc, etc, blah blah...and then , poof, they're gone or maybe, just maybe, they'll have a simple minded reply and then disappear until they start their next thread set out to divide.

Maybe I'm just tired of seeing so much of it, maybe I'm just tired tonight, period...but I see it happening alot.

IMO, I think most are very closed minded, judgemental BORED people who instigate what is "supposedly" a discussion ha ha and then sit back and watch some of the members of this board feed right into their game.

I don't know why, and personally, I am just about ready to say so long to this board because of it.

These threads get the most views, replies, etc and these posters eat that right up. They must enjoy strife amongst nurses and I am going to go out on a limb and say they are people who suffer from very low self-esteem, you know the kind....don't feel secure in their position in nursing or in life so try to bring everyone down with their own miserable lack of self-worth and smooth talking ways of posting.

Of course there are those replies that smack of their own low sense of self worth when they reply in what appears to be a positive way but they are "implying" something else. ya know, got to get that point across....

What a statement this makes that so many hop right in and post replies defending theirselves or their positions...unless, of course, some are not being the ones written about so they add their 1 cent and move on...there are all kinds....come on now, can't most of us tell already these people are TROLLS, really now, let's all come together as NURSES and stop their plight to divide us or they will surely succeed and who knows what this BB will become.

I don't care if you have 12-16 mos preparation, 2 yrs, 4yrs or more. We are ALLNURSES and there are good and bad just as in any profession. Yes, I typed profession.

I'll some it up this way. If someone feels they have to post a topic that begins with so and so vs. so OR "not to flame anyone" but I .....yadda, yadda, yadda, I pretty much know it's going to be a real "ah, I'm bored, so let's start this again" type thread and won't give them the benefit of a reply...that's just me.

Carry on, who's next?

Have a good night fellow nurses :)

*claps hands in excitement* Can I put my two cents in, can I can I? :chuckle

The people who start these threads would be people who want nothing more than a fight. They want to see what kind of a rise they can get out of other people. They have no life. They're idiots, thanks. (Now, albeit .. I imagine there are one or two people that are sincerely leggit in their postings. They really just want conversation/answers to questions.)

The administration (and usually as well as moderators) of this Forum Board have the ability to track IP's. I don't see why they just don't do that. You can ban their IP and "viola!" no more "I'm gonna see what fire I can start/fan today!!" idiots on the board.

Hehe, before I decided to switch to being a Nurse, I did massive, massive Web Design and I was majoring in Network Administration with a minor in Web Design. So that's how I know these things. *cheeeeeeese*:D

Anyhoo .. I love all y'all and I just want the idiots gone.

Then there are those who seem to know every button we have and are intent to stay and push them all. They seem to want to argue incessantly on every topic. These Trawler Trolls are the ones that trawl up every old argument there is and work it to death. They will adhere to an argument beyond reason just to keep the reactions coming.

Your post was right on gwenith and made me:chuckle

I especially see alot of the last paragraph, which I quoted you on here

Awwww, don't do anything as drastic as leaving.

I won't Shamrock. Troll or not, I'm not budging :)Thanks. I was tired when I posted and tired of seeing all the negativity I guess.

All in all I think the members here (over 30,000 members and over 14,000 active members) are REALLY good at not trolling.

I tip my hat to all of you who love this board and post appropriately.

The staff of volunteer moderators do an excellant job at keeping an eye on things and depend on their fellow members to help keep them posted on possible trouble areas.

This is truly a great place for questions, answers and hanging out.

Sure we get some who only want to cause discontent but it is YOU, the member that keeps it all in check.

Thanks,

-Russell

Rusty, I appreciate your post, and you're welcome.

Most of the time I recognize those sort of post. Don't think for a moment I don't recognize what is going on, lot of times I choose to abstain but sometimes I can't resist a post or two.

thanks for your replies

I really appreciate your input.

Will repeat to myself "do not feed the trolls, do not feed the trolls"

:chuckle I usually leave them still looking for a morsel, but I'll try even harder now :)

coffeejavule you summed it up better than I could at 2 am last noc Thanks :)

Hehe!

See I have this characteristic that either can be a blessing to me or it can downright bite me in the butt. =/ It's simply this: I just say whatever I have to say. Bad thing: I have no tact, ha! Somewhere in between finding that I had this characteristic and now I think I totally forgot to hone it and learn what tact was, heh. Good thing: I usually, USUALLY say exactly what everybody is trying to say or hasn't said because they don't wanna cause a bunch of drama. People wanna be bashful and just beat the bush or cut corners. Forget that .. I'm ain't gonna yodle it, I'ma yell it! :) Hehe.

I have started looking at the thread originator, if it is someone I know is going to upset me I don't read it. They certainly do manage to divide us at times but that is human nature.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, don't flame me for mine and I won't flame you for yours!;)

Took me awhile but I think I understand the cyberworld now. Thirdshift is right, dont sweat the small stuff.

And (gotta love this) dont feed the trolls!:D

Anyway, don't sweat the small stuff. Take the good with the bad and carry on.

It's just that simple ! :D

If it looks like it might be controversial, skip right on over it, as mentioned above. Don't even go there.. why get yourself upset?

Why waste your time? Enjoy the GOOD that's on this board, and there's a LOT OF IT ! ;)

yeah and everyone is dumb enough to jump right in and take a side!

The nature of the cyberworld is that there are a lot of people out there who have been jumping from discussion group to discussion group making trouble. In the early days of the INTERNET (not that long ago) there were no moderators and so there was a lot of entertainment to be had in stirring things up here and there - after all you could be anonymous and work out your frustrations with life and get some sense of power.

One of the reasons why we do have moderators on THIS board is that it's primary purpose is to improve communication among the nursing profession. I have learned a lot from posting here and I think that many have learned from me simply because we do do things differently. You may not agree with me but you have the opportunity to see a different side.

One of the biggest problems that face not just nursing but health care is the deepening division between the disciplines so that there is less "cross-over" knowledge. We had a recent question related to drug administration where we argued the answer back and forth before we realized the split was adult vs paeds - it was one of those areas where paeds does differ. We all learned something valuable from the exercise though.

The other valuable aspect of this board is the very anonymity. Here we CAN ask a "dumb question" and not be blamed for "not knowing that already" here we can challenge the long held myths and beliefs without being burnt at the stake.

Do look too to the positives. I remember one thread started by a troll which blasted nursing and the nursing profession. In rising to our own defence we reaffirmed to ourselves that which makes us valuable and unique.

So sometimes even trolls have their uses.:roll
