OK, so I am a mess right now. I took my RN NCLEX this morning at 8:30-10:30. I had 75 questions and A LOT of select all that apply. I'm confused about the so called "Pearson vue trick." I just tried to re register it asked me to enter my credit card info and I got the following message" our records indicate you have recently scheduled this exam. Another registration cannot be made at this time." It had a red triangle with an ! In it. I'm confused bc I thought that was the "good pop up" but I also read if it takes you to the cc info page that meant you failed. HELP!!!!
I took it in Texas!
The Pearson vue trick works - you just have to put the cc info in but you will not be charged if you passed. I think it's a sham that they try to get another $7.95 out of you just so you can get the results earlier when they know immediately that you passed. I just took my NCLEX and immediately did the PVT - I got the good popup and didn't get charged another $200. My state also listed my license the very next day. Don't pay the fee - it's ridiculous.

Sorry, but you're mistaken on both of the bolded comments. Your exam is scored TWICE, and while the first scoring is resulted within minutes of completing your exam, the second (and frankly the one that matters) can be scored anywhere from an hour later to a full 24 hours later.
People most definitely HAVE been charged $200 when they passed, because (like you) they did the PVT shortly after completing the exam, the FIRST result was 'fail', and therefore a charge made. But when the second score is a 'pass' there is no recourse to recover that lost $200. It's now a donation, and nothing you can do about it.
For those whose first score is a 'pass', they will get "the good pop up" and find no charges applied. Yay! Except that those who have a second score of 'fail' WILL fail, and will be mistakenly telling everyone they know that they passed. Oops.
MOST of the time, the two scores match, and that is why people believe that the results they find out minutes after taking their test are THE results---and why you think paying eight bucks is a scam. The thing is, though, that the PV Quick Results are the only reliable ones, and THAT is why people wait 48 hours and pay it. $8 versus $200....hmmm....guess we can see why that is still a good bet
Some States do post results quickly...lucky you! But many others take anywhere from a couple of days to several weeks. Some States are so slow, the MAILED results are much faster.
People who want to try the trick need to wait 24 hours before attempting to put in their credit card number. And if a hold was placed upon completion of the test, it will take LONGER than 24 hours, which means people might yet still get wrong results.
QR, on the other hand, is valid from the moment it's available.
I didn't know that and - while it may be true - it doesn't change the fact that it all seems rather shady to me. My friend just took her APN boards and was told the results before she walked out the door. I can't think of a reason why we should not be able to find out right away, nor a reason why the test is scored more than once and why $7.95 would fix this problem. It just feels wrong.

According to the NCSBN website, it's scored twice as a quality control measure. No one at the PV testing center is going to know anyone's results, it isn't determined instantly. For most people the scores will match; those who finish in 75 questions either clearly passed or clearly failed. No great guessing game there, really. But for everything else....well, there ARE potential discrepancies. And they do find them...so that's why they do it, anyway.
The fee of $7.95 doesn't 'fix' anything....it's the cost of a service the test-taker is requesting. Charging eight bucks allows them greater revenue, and after all this is a business! They aren't required to provide test results to individual test-takers; all results are sent to the State Boards of Nursing. For the privilege of receiving the results from them, they're gonna charge you. Since it's optional, people can choose to pay for it or wait for their BoNs to tell them (online, or snail mail). Shady? No. Good business, it seems!
There's quite a lot of revenue-generation going on in Nursing; this might be your first exposure to it, but it'll go on as long as you're licensed, and come from the BON, private businesses who rely on BON requirements for their client base: renewal fees, fees for CE/CEUs, fees for about anything they can possibly get away with
Yes, tons of threads about this. They changed the process by which the PVT is done and it potentially puts your hard-earned $200 at risk every time you attempt it. If you get a bad result, you just paid them $200 to find that out, and if you later pass, then you just effectively paid them an extra $200 for your impatience.
Oh, and that $200 isn't refundable.
I just took my NCLEX-RN exam yesterday and did the trick last night and it says "The candidate test results are on HOLD"... something like that. I cant help but wonder now. Since it's not the famous/infamous pop up that most of you guys get, now it stressed me out to wait and find out if I did make it this time. My anxiety level is high. Now, I wanna know is there someone here who got thesame thing and what does the result turn out later on? Thank you in advance.

Greetings ogtorn,
I'm also from PA. I took the Nclex-RN on 10/23. Like yourself, I received the "good pop up" when I tried the PVT however I checked the BON the following morning and found out I passed. Congratulations on passing the Nclex and much success in job hunting!!!
