Pda?

I just got into nursing school and was wondering if I should get a PDA right away or wait another semester. Also, what software should I get?

I have one...was nice in clinical to look up meds and unfamiliar terms but I think it was not a necessity...someone with more experience will undoubtedly come along and give you a better answer. :)

I'm with the above. Many floor nurses will look down upon in some way, because you have the money for it, and are trying waaay too hard. Try to study like every one else. But that's just my .02

UGH! That is annoying... I can't stand jealousy! If someone has the money for a PDA and they find it easier, why not just get it?

I'm asking for one for my Birthday. I carry a drug book, lab test reference, and Med Surg text to clinicals. All together, that's around 30 pounds worth of books. If you can afford the PDA, you'll be able to fit all those books in your pocket.

The PDA itself doesn't have to be expensive, they have them for around $100 these days. But the Software reference titles are going to run you at least what the print version of that reference would. If you go to the websites of the major publishers, like Mosby, Elsevier, Lippincott, they will have a section of PDA titles you can browse through.

I would definitely wait til senior year since technology changes so fast. I bought mine beginning of senior year and I already want a new one.

a PDA is definitely the best!

I agree. With the way technology is - it's so easy to get the older models so cheap. I have a PDA and spend much less than $100 for it, but it doesn't have a lot of the fancy stuff the newer models have like color, but if it means not carrying tons of books and does the job then it's worth it.

I agree that people will be jealous.

The CFO of our company gave us the new Sprintpcs PDA/cell phone worth $699!

I plan on using mine, but not where everyone can see it.

If they get jealous, oh well, but I don't think it will be where everyone can see it. I don't want anyone wondering if I stole it or if I can afford it being a broke student. awww, who cares.

I think its a good idea to get one too. Ive thought about it off and on, wondering if others used it or not.

I think that will be on of my grad gifts. Might as well condense what info you need into one little gadget instead of a ton of books.

If they are jealous, Tough Crap is my Humble Opinion! :)

I agree w/ TinyNurse. I'll get is my Senior yr so its not outdated!

:)

I ordered myself a Handspring Treo 90 off of eBay for Fall clinicals. It is color with 16 mb and is expandable. I got it for $100. I can always use it for two years and then get whatever is out there new.

Now, what software does everyone recommend?
