Hi!
The PBSC/PBCC thread is getting a tad crowded so I figure now is as good a time as any to get the prospective students thread going.
Good luck to everyone!
I called the office and they said that we should know sometime next week. So one more week guys and we should get a response
Interesting... Well, there is only one person in the limited access office who is responsible for processing all of the applications (including the dental program apps.) That could have a little something to do with it. It would make it a lot less stressful if they had firm date / time for the posting of the results, like it is with grades.
Hi everyone! I'm new to this thread. I'm also waiting to get into the fall 2010 program. I met with an advisor today and she told me that 28 was the cutoff so there's no need to worry if you have this many points. Does anyone know when orientation would be? July or August? I'm trying to plan a vacation. Also, has anyone taken pharmacology yet?

I took pharm last semester, and based on your previous posts you are looking for advice, right? Well, i thought pharm was by far the most challenging course i have ever taken. I think that i spent more time studying for pharm than i did A&P 1 and 2 and micro combined. For me, what worked best was the book. What i mean is, i disregarded the powerpoints that were handed out and literally read every word in that pharm book (several times). Especially the prototype drugs and the "nursing considerations". It took a while, but i really focused on the autonomic nervous system and learned as much as i could about that, because nearly every drug has sympathetic or parasympathetic effects. Once i got a firm grasp of that, the rest came much easier. If you are limited for time, i would suggest focusing on the prototype drugs, because most of the test points i missed were from those questions. Not to get you worried, but i think like 75% of my class failed, which were mostly first semester nursing students. Most of them never read the book, which was strange to me. They were real busy making all kinds of flash cards and stuff like that. Like i said, i really read the book and i got an A. Although it was the hardest A i have ever gotten. I don't know it all, but i did figure out that all of the questions on the test come from the book, and not the silly powerpoints.
I hope this helps you, and I hope we see each other this fall !
Cop*2*nurse- That was a wealth of information. Thanks so much!!! I attempted to take this class just recently (Summer A) and I had to withdraw from it. It was so much information crammed into six weeks and the test questions really threw me off. Some of the students in the class suggested focusing directly on the professor's powerpoint notes and lectures. They didnt seem to focus on reading the book as much probably because of the time constraints. The professor also suggested making flash cards. I guess everybody has their own way of attacking this class. I plan on taking this class in the Fall again with Nursing 1 (hopefully). Until than, I'll take your advice and read the book and try to get a firm grasp of the ANS. Enjoy the rest of your summer! Hope to meet you soon!!!
Hi everyone! I'm new to this thread. I'm also waiting to get into the fall 2010 program. No idea about orientation. When the advisor told you 28 pts did she mean it was cut at 28.00 or 28.01 or something. I don't know If I'm going to make it another week.
I'm betting it will be late Thursday afternoon. My experience tells me that most decisions like this are made late in the afternoon, right before the weekend. That way, the nursing office doesn't have to take a thousand phone calls from people with complaints/questions.
Isn't that the truth.
I just ran into a nursing advisor at a PBSC job fair on campus. She told me that denial letters will start to go out today. Acceptance letters will go out on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. The reason for the hold-up is that they have to make determinations on some appeals, such as transfer credit, and course equivalancies between different schools. The cut-off was 28.62.
*UPDATE*
I talked to her again and got some more.
- Denials will go out today, late in the afternoon (for the exact reasons i said in a previous post...he, he)
- No one has been accepted yet
- Acceptances will go out next Tuesday or Wednesday
- If you don't get a denial today, you have a very good chance of gettin in (obviously, but see below)
- There are 4 appeals pending
- The top 90, plus the 4 pending appeals are being considered for acceptance
- However, the true number of available slots is not exactally 90 (There are several (maybe 15) that have to repeat 1st semester or withdrew. Those get first pick. (i don't agree with that, but whatever)
Here's the bottom line...if you don't get denied later today, and you are not right near the cutoff, you are getting in. If an appeal goes through, and that person now has enough points to exceed the cut-off, the bottom person gets bumped and now we have a slightly higher cut-off. But remember, there are only 4 appeals and she didn't seem confident that they were all going through. (for example, people are appealing the fact that they took chem. at another school, but PBSC isn't giving them credit for it. Stuff like that)
If you have 28.62 points, hold your breath and pray. If you have 29 or more, relax and enjoy your weekend.
