Hi everyone,
I'm in the process of study for the nurse Procalc and the NLN entrance exam for PBCC fall nursing program.
I read on line that this school works on a point system
I was wondering if anyone who has been accepted to the program
(past/Present) student: HOW MANY POINTS DID YOU HAVE TO
WHEN ACCEPTED TO THE PROGRAM.
Anyone with info about the program, would be helpful.
Thanks
All I can say is that money is flying out the window between books, uniforms, and all the other stuff we have to do. I knew it would be expensive but I never imagined this expensive and I still have classes to pay for. I did the physical yesterday and do feel like a pin cushion. It will be nice to finally meet everyone I have been chatting with. H_2_O how is pharm going?
My friend went yesterday and thought she would have to pay $10 for each additional job and she had the paperwork all filled out, but they only asked her to write one down and didn't charge her any additional fees. So that was good news because I have had about 5 that I would of had to list. YIKES! This stuff is adding up quickly, but at least we get a break on this!
It sure does, I've had 5 jobs too.
For those of you looking for CPR. It is offered at PBCC, do a class search for EMO0123. It is offered 7/16, 7/30, and 8/4. At PBCC it's only $28.00.
Thanks JustinTJ! Too bad, I already paid for my class. Wish I had known that before. Would have been nice if they had mentioned that in the info session

I feel ya on the money thing. More $ than I expected too.
Pharm is interesting but overwhelming. Professor is a top-notch lecturer, reallty knows her stuff. She's able to hold my attention through the whole 3.5 hours, so there's something to be said for that. We had our first test Tuesday, I missed an "A" by one question. Some of the stuff on the test was tricky. For example:
-----
When is a STAT administered?
Two choices of the four choices (both seemingly correct) were: -RIGHT AWAY- or -WITHIN 5 MINUTES-
"Right away" was emphasized in class, but the correct answer (I suppose for legal reasons) was "Within 5 minutes"
-----
So there's alot of getting used to with the style of the questions. The 2nd test is Tuesday, and even though I've had my nose buried in the book, I'm still not confident, because I have no idea what to expect...
My studying has basically consisted of re-listening to the lectures and then learning the drugs in chunks instead of all at once. Also pretty much just focusing on her lecture/powerpoint vs. the text, but still doing the reading. Any suggestions?
Oh, another thing. As far as getting all the vaccinations - I have a friend who's starting nursing school at UM this fall, she said since most people have already have almost all of the required vaccinations, UM has their students do a blood test to see if they still have the appropriate antigens in their blood (or something like that). This is to keep you from becoming a human pincushion. Has anyone heard anything like this?

I went to the med center pbcc suggested and they drew blood to check my titers, the only shot I got was for tetorifice and of course the ppd test. For your next pharm test really study the sheet she gave you for the ans. I did better on that test than the first one. As far as knowing the drug names, she gives you both the generic and trade together in the questions for example diazepam(Valium). My problem with some of the questions was that I read too much into them. Go with your first gut feeling. I know it is overwhelming being crammed into 6 wks but at least it will be done and out of the way for first semester nursing.
