Hi everyone,
I'm in the process of study for the nurse Procalc and the NLN entrance exam for PBCC fall nursing program.
I read on line that this school works on a point system
I was wondering if anyone who has been accepted to the program
(past/Present) student: HOW MANY POINTS DID YOU HAVE TO
WHEN ACCEPTED TO THE PROGRAM.
Anyone with info about the program, would be helpful.
Thanks
The points are definitely going up. Last semester it was at 25.4 this time it was 27.6. I don't know if Belle Glade is too far for anyone but from what I've heard, they never fill up.
BG is easier to get in to. I think they may fill up but it's never been as competitive as the LW program.
Congrats to those that got in; I did as well. Good luck to those that didn't.. and I was under the impression that there was no waiting list. I thought they explicitly stated that you have to reapply every semester? :/
I'll be taking Pharm next week. Any tips besides tape recording the class?
navygrl, any suggestions on what one might be able to do over the summer to get sort of a head start on pharmacology?
I would recommend getting the books and just start reading. If you are taking the class in person at Lake Worth, the teacher is great. Tough, but I really learned a lot from her. Her tests come straight from her lecture but you still need to read. The best way is to record her lectures. I would never recommend anyone taking it over the summer. Half my class dropped. The grading scale is different in this class. It's like how they grade in nursing. Anything below 75 is not passing. My final is tomorrow and it is cumulative plus the 9 new chapters we went over last week. Best of luck H_2_0.
Good luck on that cumulative!
Just looked to by the text (Pharmacology for Nurses: A Pathophysiological Approach, Second Edition?) on Amazon and the reviews were a little frightening:
"I noticed the copyright for this book is next year. Maybe that is when it will be correct. There are errors in every chapter review that make me question the information in the text. It discusses the systems well. But is weak on the pharmacology. If this will be your textbook, find a different class. I checked the publisher's site, but they do not list errors in the book. Maybe they are afraid to. "
"I bought this text for class and we are constantly asking out professor whether to believe one paragraph or another. The book blatantly contradicts itself on multiple instances in each chapter. The quizzes that come with the book are impossibly hard and not based on the information in the book. Beware is right, this book is murder. "
"I just took Nursing Pharmaology with this book. The book was awful. I would study it for hours and there were mistakes everywhere. It focused so much on pathophysiology that it barely focused on the actual pharmacology. Needless to say, we used this book - tons of people didn't get their C to go to the next level of nursing. If you have to use this book for class..good luck. "
H_2_0 don't listen to the reviews on Amazon. That is where I bought my book from and it was the exact same book that was required for class. One thing I can recommend is don't buy the Davis's drug guide, buy the Nurse's drug guide(they are comming out with a 2010 version). It is the one that will be required for nursing. Unfortunately, I found that out after I bought Davis's.
Hi,
I am sorry you didnt get into LW it is very competitive that's why I decided to apply to Belle Glade, if I were you I would consider Belle Glade, call the office see if they filled there spots maybe something can be done. I am going into 2nd semester @ Belle Glade, I live in PBG and I have 2 small children. Most of the students dont even live in Belle Glade a couple of them live in Broward. The drive is about an hour (which does suck considering I live 20 minutes from LW), the area is not that great but, the teachers are awsome. In a way it's better then LW because of the student to teacher ratio, you get more one on one and because of this I believe we were ahead of LW on some things (pertaining to what we do in skills lab and being able to give meds etc...). I have to say I am glad I ended up going to Belle Glade instead of LW.

I am discourged partly because I was told they did not go through the entire applicant pool because of a long waiting list. I was surprised as I was under the impression there was no waiting list, when I asked I was told there is a list for Firefighters, Paramedics and LPNs that is 3 years long! If they are not going to get through the entire pool for spring either I feel like I was misled as they posted that they take 90 apps from the pool, no waiting list allowed for those apps. Now it looks like you will need 28 pts and above to get in. What do you think?
