Hi everyone,
I'm in the process of study for the nurse Procalc and the NLN entrance exam for PBCC fall nursing program.
I read on line that this school works on a point system
I was wondering if anyone who has been accepted to the program
(past/Present) student: HOW MANY POINTS DID YOU HAVE TO
WHEN ACCEPTED TO THE PROGRAM.
Anyone with info about the program, would be helpful.
Thanks
If nursing is what you really want to do than don't give up! I was so discouraged also when I got my denial letter. It has been a long, stressful and emotional road just to get to the application process. But I think it prepares us a bit for what to expect in nursing school. I bet after our first semester we're going to look back at our lives pre-nursing program and think "I wish it was still that easy!". LOL Whenever I think about how long this process is taking, I think of my mother. It took her almost 10 years to get her degree because she was raising me and my family and working. Now she's reaping what she has sewn, ten fold. She started her own very successful business, is bettering other's lives, and loves what she is doing. So it's true, anything worth having is worth working for. Keep plugging away, I know I am! J
Congrats to those of you who made it and thank you guys so much for the boost...I needed it!!! I was thinking of takin the NLN over...i got an 89 when i took it last but when i went to go register there's no more seats available....Last time i took the NLN i had to travel all the way to new york in order to take it and it looks like this time i will be traveling as well. I guess it'll be worth it if i can score just a little bit better and get those extra 2 points, I will also be taking extra classes to bring up my GPA...anyone have any other suggestions? they will be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance :nuke:
I know exactly how you feel moondust... I have a one year old myself and work two part time jobs. Its very difficult =/ but if you're dedicated and commited enough then you have nothing to worry about. Don't give up...try getting more points and apply again for the spring, hopefully it won't seem like forever for us!
Hello all.I finally made it in with 28.87 pts. It was my second time applying. To those who didn't make it in this time... I know EXACTLY how you feel. I researched some "Plan B's" but in the end decided to keep trying for PBCC. I have mentioned in the past, I looked into a private school for an RN program. The costs were way too high for me. I have some prior student loan debt. I just didn't want to add to it.
The next application deadline will be Oct 1. It will come so much sooner than you think. In the meantime, try to boost your GPA, consider retaking the NLN if possible, and volunteer at a hospital to gain an extra point!! Don't give up. I can speak for each and everyone of us who applied and was either accepted or denied...it's been a long road!!
Please don't give up. I knew this term would be so competitive. Fall is usually the most competitive (so I've heard). All of you have another chance (and probably a better chance) at getting in this Spring.
I feel for all who didn't get in. I was there 7 months ago. One of my good friends didn't make it this time. I know she will get in for Spring.
Aww..thanks Jentrbo...its nice to hear from someone that has already been through what we're going through right now..thank you so much for your support :bowingpur...Im going to try and get an extra 3 points while i wait for the spring which will put me at 29 points...hopefully that will be enough in the spring! :nuke:
Mummiluvsadrian,
Thank you for the kind words. When did you try to sign up for the test? I just went on and like you said there are no seats left. No seats in Pennsacola either. It also said that the pennsacola site is for PJC students only. Is new york the only place that we can retake it? I saw you got an 89...I got an 88 myself. Damn those 1 and 2 stinkin points...lol. What else are you going to do to get extra points? I havent taken the elements of nutrition but it is filled up for summer so if i take it in spring it wont count anyways. The only other point I can consider at this point is the work experience but I dont have any work experience unless I got a CNA certificate and did that for a bit. When was your baby born? My son is 7 and my daughter is 9 months old. I also considered going for LPN..and I am regretting not doing that to begin with but now after all these classes it would be like starting over except it knocks a year off of RN school with bridge program. Have you considered going to Belle Glade. I am considering that but I have heard it is pretty rough out there plus a long drive.:typing

Have you tried looking at taking the NLN @ Indian river cc? Someone in my MCB class took it there and all he had to do was just register as a student at the school (didn't have to actually take classes there). It is on computer too which is nice b/c you find out your grade right away. It might be worth looking into so you won't have to go out of state. Good Luck
Hi all.
If you go up to IRCC you cannot be on any financial aid as your financial aid could cancel as a result. If you are private pay then this could be an option. Good luck to everyone who got in and to those who will reapply in spring. I may go the Keiser route. Pricey but there are some scholarships out there! Worth looking into. I would like to graduate and begin working as soon as possible. I can't wait for PBCC forever!
I heard you can take it at IRC as well. Also, the nutrition class at PBCC is filled up moondust? Try IRC. I took it online there. I have taken a few classes there. I live in Jupiter and I've taken a couple of classes at their Stuart campus. You may want to look in to that.
Also, I have an almost 3 year old. I know how difficult it is to be in school and be a wife and mom at the same time. It's definately a juggling act but I've never in my life been more focused. I am so ready for this.
Rrymel, I was so close to signing up for Keiser's RN program. Had a not had prior student loan debt I would have done it. I would have finished in a year and a half. Their schedule is M-F I believe from like 8am to 3 or 4pm. One class is like around $1500. But, if you can qualify for aid or grants then go for it!
I'm telling you though, I felt like last semester when I was denied, I was feeling the same way. Like I'd have to wait forever to apply to the Fall term. It came up really quickly. Also, the Spring term is supposedly easier to get in to.

Got the e-mail Jentrbo! Thanks! (Can't reply, not enough posts) Helped a lot. I was pretty discouraged about my GPA, but it's only a tiny bit lower than yours. I'm going to retake the NLN and volunteer. Thanks for the advice! Keep us all updated on your journey! :)
